The Lambton Worm

We met family from down south. The food was awful. Guinness/beef pie was a burn flat puff pastry top. Veg cold and rubbery, chips were more like half of a potato, gravy was that thick it wouldn’t pour. Husbands meal poor, short rib ciabatta, ciabatta not toasted salad limp. Coffee was horrible far too strong. Unfortunately we couldn’t complain without being rude to the family member who paid. Would not go back again.

Booked a room here on 31st August for the Bank Holiday. We had a lovely day at Beamish Museum then arrived at The Lambton Worm at 5pm. The room was clean and cosy, if in need of some redecoration.We were told the kitchen closed for food at 6.30pm, which was fine but when we went to order we were told that 70% of the menu was not available. There is no staff in the premises between 10pm and 6pm. We went to our room at 8.30pm. At 11.30pm the couple in a room across from ours started arguing, banging doors, shouting and using obscene language. This went on until after 1.30am which meant that we did not sleep at all. Although, we understand the staff could not be held responsible for other guests behaviour, the fact that there is no staff on the premises between 10pm and 6am meant this behaviour went unchecked, causing severe inconvenience for other guests. The only reason we gave this stay a 2 rating was for the decent service from the breakfast staff, even though we were too tired to eat the breakfast. We did complain to the owners of the hotel but have not received any reply. We will not be returning.

Thankfully this was an overnight stop. We would definitely recommend that you DO NOT stay here! It’s really shabby. Our bedroom was not the cleanest. The thrown was ripped and hairy. The bed was lumpy. The bathroom waste was rusty. The shower was blocked. There was paint peeling on the ceiling. Bedside lamp didn’t work and it wasn’t because it needed a new bulb. The actual place is really really scabby. The croissants were burnt! There was no coffee because they’d run out of coffee beans ! The water urn was knackered . Grim grim grim !
