To be fair to the hotel when the girl who checked us in who was very nice by the way should have realised we would not be happy with the room and should have suggested an upgrade, we would have gladly paid more. The room was so shoddy, overly perfumed with air freshener but more of that later. Every inch of the floor creaked and the bathroom was so shoddy. The shower was useless and the taps needed extra effort to go on and off. The room was situated as we later found out was directly above the kitchen with a loud fan that just went on all night, and of course everything reeked of kitchen hence the heavy air freshener, the saving grace was the food and that was really very good, the breakfast lady was very pleasant and again all top notch and set us up for the day. I found it amazing that the hotel was pretty empty for guests but they shoved us in their worst room, with the windows banked out so there was not even a view, then in the morning we thought let’s get the morning news on the tv, but no it was not even tuned in so even that did not work.

Beautiful old hotel with history. Lying beautifully quiet on a hill outside the village. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a varied menu. The rooms are cozy. In short, this can be a good hotel to visit. Disadvantages: ensure a room on the ground floor or at most the 1st floor. There is not only no elevator, but the water pressure in the upper rooms is negligible and sometimes only a lukewarm thin stream of water is available. Many wedding parties are celebrated and then the wedding guests are sometimes a bit noisy when going to bed; the advantage of the top floor is that you are far from the party noise.

Booked a table for 6pm for my wife Christines birthday. I opted for the black pudding starter, with a poached egg on top and crispy bacon , Christine went for the prawns and tomatoes on bruchetta . Mains i went for the rack of lamb , chip , mixed veg and came with a pot of gravy and a pot of mint sauce. Christine had duck breast in orange and plum sauce ,sweet potatoe chips and mixed veg.All meals were piping hot, well presented. Staff were excellent and service good, we will return.
