Jarvis Preston Park

As a female in a room on their own i do not feel adequate secure locks were on the door to the hotel room. I understand thst the hotel is undrrgoing reservations and i was in one of the old rooms. As the door closed, that is it. No lock or chain. Very poor water pressure. Had to leave the shower running for literally 10 mins to have hot water. Sink was extremely low. Some work had happened in the bathroom as items were left. There was a large gap in under the door so when the sensor light was activated it shone right through, along with lots of noise as the room was near a stair cases and everything creaked. Some of the plug sockets werent allowing the plugs to go completely in so was unable to use some.of the sockets and the ones i could use had huge gaps behind them. Good points: the room was clean, tea and coffee material provided along with a fan and water. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. For staff however were lovely. Good transport links and a taxi into Brighton is around £10. Found a place for half the just down the road with grand rooms and parking. In comparisson, Preston Park is overpriced for what they are offering.

Stayed there for a weekend, as it had free parking, WiFi and good price. Receptionist friendly, and room tidy and clean. No plug socket near the bed, and one of 3 sockets not working. As it was a hot day, wanted a shower to freshen up, but no hot water. This was not a one off. Breakfast, self serviced and was fine. Although, would be nice to have some sauces and a teaspoon for my coffee. Would have been nice if I was given the WiFi code, so can't comment on the WiFi, as I was unable to use it. If looking for a clean room, reasonable price then this will suffice. I can live with the issues, except no hot water, which is frankly not good

The new management are desperately trying to change the currently terrible perception of the hotel. But unfortunately trying is all that can be said as it is failing miserably. The advantages are that there is optional onsite parking, and a breakfast each morning. The downside is that it is down to chance and location of the room which determines if you will actually get any sleep. I was unfortunately located directly above the bar area, so with lack of any soundproofing the combination of continuous loud music and staff chat, laughter, and banging it was like I was actually trying to sleep in the bar itself. No phones in the room so had to use my mobile to call the reception who advised me the music would be turned down. Which it was, shame it only made the the level of noise from the staff directly below appear even louder. If sleep and rest do not matter then stay here, if not then this is the place for you.
