The View Hotel

My husband and I had a lovely weekends stay at The View Hotel, we booked through Secret Escapes and received a Side View King Room with breakfast and a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us on ice, in our room. The hotel is right on the seafront, so most of the rooms have a sea view whether partial or full, our side sea view was a very good view facing towards the pier and bandstand. Our room was on the fourth floor, with great views of both the sea and the town/south downs behind us, we could also hear and see the tribute bands practising at the bandstand for their evening acts. Our room was large with a very comfortable King bed (as advertised), two choices of pillows, wooden combined wall mounted desk/vanity table with a small 26" TV Screen and large mirror. Three pull out drawers one side and two larger ones on the other side, with one incorporating the hospitality tea/coffee/kettle tray. Nearly all of the drawers, when pulled out fell out or off their runners, not safe at all, the only one that didn't was the one holding the hospitality tray - thank God! The wardrobe held a full size ironing board and iron, plus a small safe and storage shelves, very good. The headboard was the same wooden style mounted to the wall and incorporated the small side tables, but thankfully the small drawers in these did not fall out. The wall mounted side lights were loose and when you turned them on or tried to move the little bendy reading lights, the whole light base moved. We were scared that they would fall off the wooden headboard mount, but they worked. There was a small round table and armchair by the sliding balcony doors and two plastic chairs out on the balcony. The balcony was of a decent size, but there is a large step up and out to the balcony. The room decor, although very clean and tidy, seemed dated due to the colours, all brown wood and brown/gold curtains, nets and furnishings. The bathroom was good, very clean, liked the decor and had very nice wall mounted Liquid Soap and Hand Cream for the sink area and separate Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash for the shower/over bath. Shower was good, strong water pressure and hot. Towels lovely and large, fluffy and clean. Breakfast was a mixed bag, good but not great, buffet style but only two options of eggs, scrambled or fried and each of those options were very runny, undercooked. Had to ask for my eggs to be cooked more on the first morning, no option for poached and no-one available at the food counter to ask. Bacon and sausages were great, as were the mushrooms, beans etc. Loved the fresh bread (brown/white) rather than the standard shop bought sliced packet bread. Loved the coffee machines and tea options, plus there was a continental option, but I did not use that so cannot comment. Staff were all lovely, very nice, friendly, smiley. Communal areas very clean and looked very nice and comfortable. We had a lovely weekend weather wise so did not stay inside the hotel a lot. Location of the hotel was ideal, at the better end of the parade and close to the pier and bandstand and great walks along the seafront. Parking was available on the streets but you had to pay, believe the hotel can give you a discounted voucher for parking and they ask when you arrive, but we have a disabled badge. We had no issues finding spaces. Really enjoyed our stay but did not give 5 stars due to the broken drawers/light mounts in the room and mixed bag of breakfast. Finally, very popular with the older crowd.

We chose a lovely spacious room with a sea view and it was well maintained with pleasant, efficient staff. Very quiet too at night.

The views from our room were lovely. Great to wake up to the sun rising over the sea. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice.
