DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!!!! 0/5 I do not mean to be rude but when I first entered the room I noticed how dirty it was especially the bathroom and window sills as they looked rotted and bitten and one of the mugs in the room clearly wasn't washed properly but the WORST PART was that there was a mouse in the room that came in at 2am, waking me up and chewed on my charger cord, the mouse was running about and when I went to the front desk they were no help and acted like this happened often. They could not offer me another room, nor did they try to get it out and just kept on insisting it was already gone and offered to put a small bed in the dining room for me to stay in over night but in the end suggested to just prop the door open pretty much all night to get it out which I did not feel was a very safe option and the very next morning I checked out early, had to find a quick alternative accommodation and WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. this level of sanitary upkeep is just honestly appalling.

Walking through the doors, the 15th-century building immediately impresses with its striking exposed beams and antique decor. Front desk staff were polite and had me checked into my room quickly with zero wait time. The atmosphere inside carries a heavy, moody historical charm, though parts of the property definitely show their age. Pricing is quite reasonable for a central four-star base, making it fair value if you prioritize history over modern polish. Right on the High Street in Colchester with unbeatable historic charm and walking access to local sights. Value: Decent mid-range pricing for a central spot, though room updates are overdue. Wait Time: Fast and efficient check-in process upon arrival. Experience: Atmospheric and memorable due to the ancient architecture, though upkeep is mixed.

Just had a lovely afternoon tea we went to celebrate are wedding anniversary staff were great very attentive food Was amazing will definitely recommend the red lion hotel to friends.
