White Hart Hotel

Lovely barman, couldn’t have been more helpful. Absolutely awful man calling time. Rude, entitled tattood idiot who was rude to my brother and nephew, both of whom are staying there. They say there’s no wifi, rooms are too hot. It’s not cheap and the service is average at best.

My friend and I stayed here when we were visiting Colchester. We looked at various options around the area and decided that the White Hart fitted the bill for location, ease of access, cost etc. What a good decision we made. From the first friendly greeting at reception on the evening of our arrival, through to departure the next day, all of the staff that we encountered were excellent. The building itself it quant and quirky, as is the whole hamlet with ancient timber buildings lining it's streets. The room we stayed in was a very pleasant and the beds were very comfortable. The only negative was that the shower was a bit feeble. We ate in the restaurant for our evening meal and for breakfast. On both occasions the food and the service was very good. In addition to the restaurant, the hotel has a nice bar and a very welcome (given the current heatwave) outside area. Parking was good. We found a shaded spot at the back of the hotel. Cost wise, it was comparable with the other hotels that we looked (Premier Inn etc) possibly a little bit cheaper. So overall, it was a really pleasent stay in a characterful hotel and location, made special by the excellent staff. As a footnote. I left a coat in the wardrobe and only remebered it when I was 100 miles into my journey home. I rang the hotel straight away and they confirmed that they had found it and posted it to my home address the same day. No drama, just good service.

My husband and I booked here as we had a funeral to attend in the village and we live quite away from the venue. The room was nice a good size overlooking part of the car park and trees. It was nice to have a fan and the bed and pillows were really comfy we both slept well. In the morning my husband went to make a cuppa for each of us we both have to take decafe there was decafe coffee but no decafe tea that is a suggestion that maybe could be improved upon. A tray might be a good idea too as we had to leave the dirty cups on the wooden unit. My husband then went for a shower he had a nightmare he could not get the water pressure right it was either too cold or too hot . He was ages trying to get a shower and the water just trickled out the shower head needs replacing. We are both almost 76 and I found it very difficult to get into the bath it was very deep and I struggled but my husband helped me to get in the bath as I decided as the water pressure wasn’t good enough I would have a bath. When I had finished I could not get out I had to call my husband who had to leaver me so I could put my arm through his and he managed to pull me out. On a positive note the receptionist was lovely very helpful and friendly she is an asset to your Hotel.
