Reading the reviews I think its safe to say we were very lucky. The hotel is tired. The decor 'kooky' (designed by someone who has possibly never been to the UK). The lifts. One out of order, the other always a queue. First Floor carpet has some sort of warning plastic on it. We stayed in Room 203. Large room, large double bed. Again decor 'kooky' (not a single matching lamp) wardrobe door was a wiremesh frame door. However, room was clean, aircon worked. Bathroom clean, shower modern. No mould anywhere (unlike other rooms according to other reviews I've read). Good nights sleep, though the blackout curtains did mean we slept in (ok that should never really be a complaint!!) We didn't pay for breakfast (£16pp) as there was a Wetherspoons just 3min walk away (which cost £19 for the two of us in total) Overall, we booked literally last minute with no research whatsoever, struck out lucky on the room by all accounts. Hotel is central, close to the Market and the theatre/gig district. Had an offer on the room price (about £40 off 'recommended') so can't comment fully on value for money. Based purely on my experience alone I'd recommend as a one/two night stay hotel

Stayed in a twin room for two nights. Comfortable beds, good black-out curtains, air conditioning, decent TV, tea & coffee facility. On the minus side, no wardrobe, very little storage space and stupid non matching light fittings. Overall would I stay here again - yes.

Beautiful, historical building in a perfect spot of the city. The very small room was nicely decorated with great modern details, and the shower was great. But the window faced an inner court's black wall, hence no view what so ever, just the smell from the kitchen ventilation and screams from seagulls. The hallway was full of used dished (from room service?), empty bottles and broken glass for three days before it was removed. We asked for another room, but the hotel was fully booked. Breakfast room was loud with pop music, a broken pancake machine and mediocre food. Worst of all: a complete stranger walked into our room one night, while we were sleeping, claiming he had checked into the (our) room. Apparently, he was given the key to our room by accident, but that should not happen at all. Next morning, the receptionist apologized politely, but did nothing else.
