The Little Thatch

Spent a few days in The Thatch Inn in late September, and I must say it has an awful lot going for it. Nice rooms, great bar, excellent food and friendly staff who, on the whole, are very obliging. Easy Parking, but the Car Park does fill up very quickly. As is often the way however, the Management seem to have forgotten the notion of customer service in favour of doing everything by a computerised system. The staff appear to be controlled by a tablet many walk about with, and if your needs don’t appear on their tablets, they don’t get seen to. For example, our shower soap and shampoo ran out, but wasn’t replaced by the cleaners, meaning we had to go downstairs to request replacements. There is no reception incidentally – check in & out is all done by computer. The showers are very small – worth noting if you are a larger person. Our leaked from a corner leaving a puddle every day. This was never mopped up, so we had to do that ourselves every day. The room cleaners changed the towels one day, leaving a replacement for just the one of us. Another trip downstairs first thing in the morning, for a set of fresh towels. I assume none of the above appeared on their tablet, so it didn’t get done. Also, we didn’t hear a vacuum cleaner being used once during our stay, when the cleaners were working, and it showed. Waiting times in the Restaurant varied from day to day, depending on whether the Management had put enough staff members on to cope with the amount of customers. Our last morning, there was one staff member on duty coping with an influx of 14 new customers, over and above those already staying at the Inn. He managed extremely well, but we had to wait 40 minutes for our food. All of the above can be laid firmly at the Management’s feet. If they paid more attention to their customer’s needs and less to the computer system, the Inn might run a little more smoothly.

Location was good to catch a bus to Gloucester . Lovely friendly staff and nice atmosphere in bar/restaurant area. Good food. Room was small but had a comfortable kingsize bed . Room , bedding and shower room were spotlessly clean . Great value through a Travelzoo deal ,

I chose the Thatch Inn because it looked like a lovely traditional place which it is from the outside. The rooms are cold and impersonal as are the staff. Not much more to say other than it wasn’t a great experience.
