Burleigh Court Hotel

We stayed at Burleigh Court Hotel for four nights, booking two rooms. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the gardens and surroundings are lovely. Unfortunately, that is where the positive experience ends. The level of service was shockingly poor, certainly nowhere near what one would expect from a four-star spa hotel. Housekeeping was appalling. On the first day, our rooms were not properly cleaned. The bins were not emptied, the floors were not vacuumed, and all housekeeping did was make the beds. In one of our bathrooms, the bathtub drain was blocked, causing water to accumulate while showering. We reported the issue, but it was never fixed during our entire four-night stay. Worse still, the bathtub was not even cleaned, so we eventually had to clean it ourselves. For a hotel that advertises itself as a four-star spa hotel, even the basic amenities were missing. There were no slippers in the rooms, and when we requested them, we were simply told they did not have any. There were also no safes in the rooms. The restaurant service was equally disastrous. We tried having dinner at the hotel twice, and on both occasions, parts of our orders were forgotten, including main dishes and a dessert. Breakfast was another frustrating experience. Despite repeatedly explaining that we do not eat pork and specifically asking for no bacon, we were served plates containing bacon several times. When we asked for the food to be freshly prepared, the staff repeatedly questioned why, rather than simply respecting our request. Even more disturbing was the lack of attention to basic food hygiene and service standards. A slice of bread that I had cut the previous day appeared again in the same bread basket the following morning. On our final morning, when we pointed out that the honey jar was almost empty and asked for it to be refilled, instead of replacing or refilling it, the staff brought us a spoon to scrape out what was left at the bottom! These are not isolated mistakes. They reflect a consistent and unacceptable lack of care, professionalism, attention to detail, and basic hospitality standards throughout our stay. Beautiful buildings and gardens cannot compensate for such exceptionally poor service. We paid for a four-star hotel experience but received a level of service that fell far below even basic expectations. It is genuinely disappointing to see such a beautiful property so poorly managed. We had an extremely disappointing experience, and I would never stay at Burleigh Court again. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at Burleigh Court for two nights to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. While the hotel itself is beautiful, unfortunately the overall experience fell short of what we expected, particularly given the price. The hotel felt noticeably understaffed. We had to find someone to check us in and regularly had to seek out staff when we wanted a drink from the bar, even after using the call button provided. We ate in the restaurant twice. The food was very tasty, but service was inconsistent and we often had to find staff ourselves, even to order water. As we had our dog, we were seated in the dog-friendly area, where we could hear music and staff conversations coming from the kitchen throughout dinner. Some dishes also differed from their menu descriptions, and on one evening a staff member had to stop a colleague noisily setting up the breakfast coffee station directly behind us while we were still eating. Overall, it didn’t feel particularly polished. The dog-friendly breakfast seating was also disappointing: a separate room with one long, sticky table shared between guests and no background music, which felt quite awkward. At one point our end of the table collapsed on top of our legs. We would have reported this but couldn’t find anyone to speak to! Our room was fine, but surprisingly had no fridge. The bathroom was dated and not as clean as we would expect, with mould around the shower screen seal and significant staining in the shower. Although our bed was remade during our stay, used glasses and dirty spoons weren’t removed or replaced. Most disappointing was the lack of the personal touches we usually associate with boutique hotels. We had mentioned when booking and during our stay that we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary, but there was no acknowledgement at all. We certainly didn’t expect anything elaborate, but even a “happy anniversary” at check-in or a small note in the room would have been appreciated. On departure, we also weren’t asked how our stay had been; we simply settled the bill and handed back the key. One real highlight was Josh, who went out of his way to help us and even brought a treat for our dog after seeing us return from a walk. His warmth and attentiveness really stood out. We’ll definitely return to the area, but unfortunately we wouldn’t choose to stay at Burleigh Court again.

My friend Kate and I visited Burleigh Court Hotel for one of their Wellness Garden and Afternoon Tea packages. I have to eat dairy and wheat free so I was delighted to see that they offered both a gluten free and vegan afternoon tea menu so I knew I would be well catered for, and boy was I. We arrived and had a cup of tea in their calming lounge, the hotel is such a beautiful building, the terrace is amazing with beautiful flowers, comfortable seats and views to die for. We went and experienced the well ness package which was lovely. There was a small swimming pool, quite cold but refreshing, a sauna and jacuzzi all of which we experienced and all of which were lovely. After that we went and had Afternoon Tea in the beautiful dining room. The only criticism I had was that the flowers were all dead, in the reception area, bar and dining room. Otherwise it was a wonderful experience. My gluten and dairy free offering was lovely. Interesting sandwiches, good gf bread, an amazing scone and then little dainty cakes. A wonderful experience and one I would like to repeat. We also had great service, and would especially like to mention Amy, the housekeeping Manager who very kindly gave us towels as we had forgotten ours. Delightful!
