Maes Manor Hotel

The wedding was outside in the garden which was amazing as we were all sweating and thankfully it was breezy. The staff are so friendly. The manor itself is old but the grounds are amazing! The food was glorious. The only downfall was there was enough bar staff for the evening of the wedding and the breakfast buffet wasn’t the best but other than that it was a lovely stay.

I arrived to join a huge queue of cars for School Prom. There was no differentiation between hotel guests and prom kids being dropped off. After 10 mins in the queue the manager simply stated, "sorry car park is full you will have to drive out and find a parking spot".. didnt ask if I was a guest... when I said I had a reservation he diverted me to the back of the hotel. This could have been so much easier to deal with! Check in was relatively easy, but I knew that all the resources for the hotel were directed towards prom. I was told I could only use the restuarant if I ate and left in the next 40 mins (closed at 7pm) DUE TO THE PROM I was told the bar would not be open DUE TO THE PROM I was told most of the common areas and grounds would not be openly accessible DUE TO THE PROM I was told I would be in a room in the "black and white building" as the music will be very loud DUE TO THE PROM There was no TV in my room and the receptionist asked me to wait until she has spoken to the manager, but that could be a while as he was overseeing parking DUE TO THE PROM The room I was given was frankly horrible. Room 37. It felt like staff quarters, if you didnt actually like the staff member! It was very basic, no TV, dark and a bed that has probably been there since the room was opened in the 1950s! I waited 30 minutes in the dark, hideous room and eventually asked the receptionist if she could find a TV, given her response (which was not rude or wrong) I decided to that I was NOT IMPORTANT as a guest DUE TO THE PROM. God forbid I actually needed anything else whilst staying as I would have been very much an afterthought. After 35 minutes, I checked out and drove 4.5 hours home! I would rather drive 10 hours than stay in this place. Hotel guests are simply afterthoughts, they dont care about people paying to stay, they only cater for parties and weddings... Dont bother going here if you just want a room, a meal and a bed... Oh TV is clearly and added bonus! I wrote an eamil to the hotel asking to discuss my feelings but they have ignored me... apparently the manager needs to set up a wedding.. which sums up my experience. I would rather grate my knuckles with a cheese grater than go back to this place!

We stayed the night as a gift from my daughter, we we were welcomed by the manager, he was lovely. Yes the rooms are tired and dated but the staff were amazing & couldn't do enough for us and the food was tastly and hot, we will return, either for Sunday lunch or one of their tribute nights, its a beautiful venue for weddings, thank you for your hospitality.
