The rooms and ensuites are well kept, always clean, tidy, and comfortable. Staff are generally friendly and approachable and there's a welcoming atmosphere throughout the hotel. It offers excellent value for money and is in an extremely convenient location right in the town centre. The bar is lively and friendly, serving well kept ale. Despite the central position, the rooms remain peaceful once you’re inside, making for a surprisingly quiet and relaxing stay. Recommended.

We were catching up with old friends and decided to stay the night rather than drive home. The room was quirky and old but full of charm and character. The bed was a sleigh bed and was clean and comfortable. Traffic noise was there but the room faced onto a 20mph road so noise was minimal, we heard no noise from neighbouring rooms, slamming doors or people passing our room and thought the hotel was empty, but it wasn't. A huge wardrobe and two ironing boards and the usual tea and coffee (but no biscuits!). The bath was rather narrow but the two showers were adequate and did the job. We had the dinner and bed and breakfast option and had a very good three course evening meal and plenty to eat for breakfast. Would we visit again? As long as you stay dog friendly then very much so.

We stayed here for one night while attending a function nearby. Unfortunately, the stay was very disappointing. There was no air conditioning in the room, and the only fan provided was a basic one that barely moved any air. The windows only opened a quarter of the way, presumably for health and safety reasons, but this meant there was no proper airflow at all. Sleeping felt like being in a sauna, so getting a good night’s rest was almost impossible. I did ask for a additional fan but there were no more and the lady mentioned Greene King only provide 1 per room. Just buy a few more cheap fans to keep guests happy - you will avoid instances like this. The bathrooms were in a poor state and clearly need updating. The room also had two TVs, one in the sitting area and one in the bedroom, but both had issues. Most of the channels worked on the sitting room TV, while about half didn’t work on the bedroom TV. To make matters even more bizarre, when I tried to turn on the bedroom TV with the remote, it switched on the living room TV also. Breakfast was okay, but overall the property felt tired and there was an unpleasant smell in the corridors. If you’re looking for a comfortable stay and a decent night’s sleep, I would recommend avoiding this place.
