Ramada Hemel Hempstead

i would not classify this as a 4* hotel. there was mould in bathroom, toilet seat didn't fit properly, wardrobe doors scratched badly. curtains fraying. we were very disappointed with our stay.

Chose this hotel as we were meeting friends in St Albans and our friend said that it was a nice hotel as she had done some work there at weddings. Initially, appeared clean and welcoming, however the staff member on reception who greeted us wasn't exactly enthusiastic in his manner. We were directed to our room (250), which we used the lift to get to 2nd floor. As I was previously employed in the fire safety industry, I was shocked to find that the fire door adjacent to the lift on ground was wedged open, not only by a permitted door wedge, by also by an evac chair. On route to our room, I noticed quite a few door number plaques were loose and hanging at an angle as well as a light (which was an emergency light as denoted by the green LED was flashing. Our door number was also loose. In the room, the 'hook' on the back of the bathroom door was loose and would not hold a towel or any clothing. On the window, I noticed that the safety cable preventing the window from opening too far would not clip into the cotch. Not a problem for us as we were adults - however could have been an issue if there was a young child staying in the room. Moving onto breakfast and we waited 5 minutes for a member of staff to appear to book us in. Food was OK, although I would have like a choice of egg instead of just boiled or scrambled. Due to having cloth on the hit plates under the serving bowls, some of the food was not as warm as we would have liked. Also, the scrambled egg was very bland. We, personally would not stay there again. The maintenance issues could have been prevented by staff walking around and seeing what needs repairing or tightening

After reading reviews on this hotel, I was pleasantly surprised when we got to our room. It seemed to have been refurbished during the last few months and was spotlessly clean. It was a good size room with a large bathroom. There were a lot of drawers but could have done with more clothes hangers. When we arrived the room was extremely cold. We asked reception for a heater which we were given after our evening meal. They also put the heating on at this point. The breakfast was the usual buffet. I don't like fried breakfast so I was limited to cereals and fresh fruit. We had a choice for the 3 courses in the evening which could have been hotter. Overall, a pleasant 2 nights.
