Cobo Bay Hotel

Hope they have cleaned their kitchen We were served a filthy rag 12 inches long in our salad. Never was a dish taken from a table as quickly as that was when we complained. Pity I dainty get chance to photograph it. Service staff grovelled politely but I am still waiting for a promised apology from the chef who was ingratiating himself with the couple on the next table. I was hospitalised for 5 days with food poisoning after eating his salad

Been going back to guernsey for the last 50 years since we worked there in early 70s. Stayed in many hotels but not the Cobo Bay until last week. Saw a great autumn offer on line so booked up for four nights. All the staff were very friendly and efficient and we enjoyed the breakfast each morning. The hotel is in a great area for sunsets and a lovely beach just over the road. Our room was a good size and very comfortable. The problem was it was at the very rear corner on first floor overlooking the PUBLIC BAR of the Rockmount next door. It was very noisy in the evening as many of the drinkers spilled outside. Friday night was particularly bad with frivolities going on til past 1.00am. Our sleep pattern was badly disrupted and in the morning you had the bin lorry or deliveries starting around six. We kept the side window shut to try to reduce the noise but the staff rest/smoking area was just below our rear window. Don’t stay in room 109. A room next to the Guernsey glass on the left side is what you need to enjoy this hotel.

There was a glitch with the room that I originally booked, but I received a msg from the hotel to apologise &. say that they had upgraded me to a superior room. Great service - which contained throughout our stay. All staff are pleasant & helpful. Good breakfast choice & plentiful. Evening meal also, although I would have liked a couple more vegetarian choices. The only thing that I hope they will solve with their future refurb is installing air con. We came after the heatwave but it was still quite difficult to sleep. Would return. If you are coming by ferry pay attention as you exit. To get to the hotel go straight over the roundabout & up the hill, 15 mins. We got caught up & out of 3rd exit due to poor signage & it took an hour. Roads are badly signed or not at all - apart from very main ones.
