Dylan Apartments Paddington

I only paid £50 for this room so, in all fairness I don’t have much right to moan and it was good value for money. But that being said I do have a few gripes. Arrived at 11.30am, host was outside the front door having a cigarette, she said hello, put out her cigarette straight away and came inside with us which was nice not keeping us waiting. We couldn’t check in till 2 which was fine and they allowed us to keep our luggage in their office (I did notice on the wall that if you wish to keep your luggage there for more than 2 hours on the day of check OUT you have to pay £10). Arrived back at 2pm & given keys to room 53, top floor. Up (i think) 6-7 flights of stairs STEEP NARROW stairs. So do not stay here if you have difficulty climbing stairs. We are fit and have no issues and we got out of breathe walking up there. The ‘studio’ is basically the size of a small hotel room. Bed was awfully squeaky, felt like it was going to break every time I moved around. The place was incredibly hot- especially after walking all those stairs however the window only opened an inch (for safety I guess) however it didn’t stay open. So we had no choice but to sit and swelter. No room to move AT ALL. They basically replaced the wardrobe with a sink, microwave and cupboards. Hardly a studio. Because they had replaced the wardrobe there was nowhere we could put clothes. So our 1m walkway from the door to the bed was full of suitcase. Way way too small. Very disappointed. Don’t stay here if it’s for more than a couple of nights because you generally can’t move - unless we were given the smallest room there i am not sure). About 10 ish mins walk to padd station, shops and tube & 15 min to Hyde park. When you get to Paddington station. Just keep walking to the right on praed street until you get to the park grand hotel on Devonshire terrace, and then turn right and Dylan apartments is down there. Front door has been smashed and just taped together which is off putting. Didn’t try the breakfast. Woke up at 2 am from neighbours coming home because walls and doors are so thin & floors so creaky. Also someone below us was being loud and annoying and their neighbour started banging the doors and screaming for them to shut up. So was awake for about an hour which was a little annoying. Not the hotels faults but they do stay there & it just goes to show how thin and old the place is. All that being said it is hard to find somewhere in Paddington for £50 a night, they should just replace the kitchen with a wardrobe as it was totally unneeded and in the way. (For most people I spoke to also). The hosts were nice and friendly and it was a great location. Quiet but close to all needs. Happy with the sleep we had but needs some doing up.

These are your typical European rooms, very small. I can't say that I would stay there again, but I can tell you that that staff was very courteous. They allowed us to drop off our luggage before check-in. The bed is a double bed, big enough for two. I can't tell you if the Kitchenette was functional or not. The bed was VERY hard and uncomfortable. The comforter needs to be replaced (it's not that much money for the money they charge). On our last night there, there was a loud noise, almost as if someone's bed had broken.

Do not book here. Appreciate it's budget but studio we had was nothing like the pictures or description. Obviously a basement down dangerous steps - very dirty. Double bed squashed in between two walls, two electric rings next to sink!!! Didn't work anyway. No kettle just toaster (which we wouldn't use), microwave only to make hot drink. One plate, 1 knife and 3 forks, 2 chipped mugs. Bathroom awful. We couldn't use shower - curtain was covered in mould and dirty. We spent minimum time (sheets were clean at least but didn't give us much confidence). We left soon as we could next day after a very bad night and noise from adjacent room. Never use again.
