London City Suites By Montcalm

I stayed for 1 night at the Montcalm brewery. I was expecting 5 star and it definitely wasn't. Awful value for money. Reception staff helpful, but not proactive. The hallways were worn and dated. The room was tatty, marks on the walls, light switches that didnt make sense, cold water out of the hot setting and hot out of the cold in the shower, random bottle of prosecco that i didn't know if it was complimentary or not. Called reception with no answer (twice). Plus side, comfy bed and good location. I wont be returning

Will return on next business trip. Staff is great and location is great

I have stayed at many 5* hotels and this unfortunately did not come up to par. I had booked a deluxe room and there wasn’t anything deluxe about it. The furniture was worn and tatty, the bed was two single beds pushed together. The deluxe room shown in the pictures on the website is not what I received. I called reception to double check this but no one answered the phone. I went down to the concierge and asked a couple of questions to be responded with ‘what?! Ask them over there’ excuse me, what kind of way is that to talk to somebody! It appears I was in the correct room, I asked for robes as apparently that needs to be a special request. I had gone out for dinner and they were put on the bed when I returned. There was a tiny bottle of Prosecco and crisps on the desk but didn’t know if this was complimentary or not. Also there were two guests, so if complimentary why only one? Also in 12 hours the fire alarm went off three times, I didn’t know if this was a test, it did go off after a while but 3 times in a short space of time is ridiculous. Thanks for waking me up with that! The location is good as it’s in between Moorgate and Barbican tube station. There’s a Tesco a couple of minutes walk away. Bear in mind it is in the city so weekends are very quiet but could be beneficial in some cases! However this is not a hotel I would return to.
