The Clarendon Hotel

Unfortunately, my stay was quite disappointing, although there were a few positive aspects. The location was excellent and very convenient, which was one of the best things about the hotel. The food was also acceptable, although the breakfast area became very crowded from around 8:30 a.m., which made the experience less relaxing. The main problem started with my room allocation. I had booked expecting a double-bed room, but after collecting my key and making my way up several stairs to the allocated room, I discovered two single beds instead. I then had to go all the way back to reception to explain the problem before they gave me another room. Although the staff eventually changed the room, the unnecessary journey up and down the stairs was frustrating. Another major issue was the heat in the room. The room became hot and uncomfortable, and the wall-mounted fan was not sufficient to cool it properly. After a long day, you expect to return to a hotel room where you can relax and sleep comfortably, but the heat made the task difficult. The number of stairs and level changes also posed a challenge, particularly after the hotel sent me to the wrong room initially. This is something guests with mobility difficulties or heavy luggage may want to consider. Overall, the hotel has an excellent location and acceptable food, but my experience was let down by the incorrect room allocation, uncomfortable room temperature, inadequate cooling and the amount of stair climbing involved. For me, these issues significantly affected what should have been a comfortable and relaxing stay.

The location is really special, so close to Blackheath! You can also easily get there on foot if you go to Greenwich by boat; a nice walk up the hill and over the heath. The train station is only a 10-minute walk away. The hotel itself feels very familiar and safe; a bit of a family hotel atmosphere. The reception is very welcoming and someone is available for questions at all times. The room at the back, number 150 I think, was wonderfully bright with a view of the trees in the garden, and also wonderfully quiet. In terms of hygiene, the hotel is truly spotless and all facilities are in excellent condition. My room even had a bath. As a cherry on top, there was also a delicious breakfast in the dining room with a wide variety of food. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Plus point: good location near the center and quiet rooms... Minus points: meager breakfast, certainly not for a 4-star hotel, poor cleanliness in the rooms, very dated, room cleaning staff, rude and aloof.
