Paddington Apartments

While the staff are super nice and the room was clean this is a hard no for us. They put us one floor up in a balcony unit. There was a roof outside that was accessible from other windows and not too far off the ground. The problem was the balcony door was broken. It would not lock. We went down and talked to the front desk. They knew it was broken. They said we will get it fixed after you leave. Okay but it’s broken now and we are sleeping here tonight. They said it was fine. IMO not fine. The roof of the balcony was just an awning that easily lifted to allow access over the glassed in area. We had to rig a lock using luggage straps attached to furniture to sure it was safe to sleep. They also have no room safe so assume anyone can break in and get your valuables if you leave the room. In addition, they advertise central hvac but it was not working. Once again front desk staff said don’t worry that it shows an error code. Apparently this was well known and of no concern. Instead they had a space heater in the room. Space heaters are fire hazard and I cannot understand why they would be allowed in a hotel at all.

Extremely misleading and false marketing and poor service – avoid My City Residences / Paddington Apartments We booked Paddington Apartments (20 Chilworth Street, London) via Booking.com in April 2025 for a stay in late September and early October 2025, and it turned out to be one of the worst travel experiences we’ve had. Instead of the bright and modern apartment shown online, we were assigned a basement flat with dark rooms, dungeon like, accessed by steep, narrow stairs, and with a cramped and claustrophobic atmosphere. None of this was disclosed on the booking page. The apartment was asigned to us and not chosen by us. The apartment was like entering a cave and poorly maintained, with cheap tired furniture and an unpleasant smell. When we complained, both My City Residences and Booking.com, they just refused to take responsibility and pointed fingers at each other. No refund or assistance. After further research, we found many reviews describing the same issues — misleading photos, unclean rooms, and lack of customer support. Bottom line: Fantastic location, but absolutely terrible management. Unless you enjoy a prison environment and a basement cage sold as “bright apartments”, stay away from this place. Legal actions has therefore been taken.

The location perfect however we regretted booking this place. The check-in was not as seamless as described and assumed I was checking my email while travelling. Calling was a bit of an experience after such a long flight and to be honest the whole experience was just a bit of a mess. The room itself is a good size for a family of three, however, there is an obviously and overwhelming smell of a mould problem. It was okay if you kept the door closed but was very pungent, exacerbated by the non-working aircon. It was nice to have small kitchenette but overall the whole place was very tired and frankly a bit grubby. If you have to stay here then we do recommend the Italian around the corner ‘Ask’ and the Chillian cafe (also around the corner) which gave us the best coffee we had in the Uk and a decent breakfast. Other than that, seriously avoid.
