Stayed for one night while I was travelling on business. I was a little nervous and unsure what to expect from reading various negative reviews.
The hotel is very tired looking. Poor upkeep in all areas. It seems like an old country house hotel that was lovely in its heyday and that just hasn’t been maintained. It’s lost its identity. It has meeting rooms but clearly is a wedding venue too. Lots of corporate guests staying.
My room was clean. TV didn’t work. Barely a trickle of cold water from my sink tap. Staff good and lady in the restaurant personable and friendly.
I ate in the restaurant and menu was varied and flavourful.
I kept asking myself would I come back and the answer is yes. If they just put the money into maintaining and tidying the place up so you felt it wasn’t shabby and dirty, this place has potential.
I travel a lot for work and it was nice to stay in somewhere that wasn’t a Premier inn style hotel. Ample parking and wifi is ok. I will give it another try before I discard it completely on my list of places to stay in the area.

The location was easy to find so that was a plus! We arrived at 15:10 and booked in, I quickly went to my room to put my bags in as we were having drinks with the bride & groom before they went off for the night. I noticed straight away that my room was not in good condition, with stains on the carpet and rickety blinds; however, I didn't want to make a fuss as it was a family occasion for which I had travelled from Ireland to attend the wedding.
Around 17:30, I went for a laydown as tiredness was catching up with me, as I'm still recovering from cancer treatment. Another one of my brothers had arrived, father of the bride, who really didn't need any more stress, especially as he had a speech looming! When he booked rooms for him and his sons, he made sure they were all together. He rang 3 times after he had booked to confirm this; however, the manager, who wasn't on that day, had changed the arrangements. (This is for my brother to complain about)
Back to me! When I got back to room 216, it was very warm in there, the radiator was on....heatwave had been happening for the last 2 months!!
On my way to dinner, I asked reception for a fan due to the heat in room 216. She told me there was none but would open my window wider. We had a table booked for 7pm for 13 people. The booking was made at least 10 days in advance, and the hotel was fully booked, so there should've been more staff on. We waited over an hour for our food, and when it arrived, it was nothing special. When I went to bed, fair play to the receptionist, she had put a fan in my room. Shame, there was loud music outside my window and smells from a pop-up food place of some sort.
Breakfast the next day wasn't great, tepid coffee and no fruit left, there again nothing was covered, and flies were everywhere. I got a bowl of watermelon in the end. Others mentioned they had kettles with tea & coffee in their rooms, not in 216.
I jumped in the shower, then went to dry my hair, but the hairdryer wasn't working. By this stage, I wasn't surprised. Somehow, I managed to get ready and headed off to Hedsor House for my niece's wedding, where we had a lovely day.

This is the complaint I made to senior management regarding our family's stay in Grovefield House Hotel in February/March 2026
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am not in the habit of writing negative reviews of hotels. However my experience of your hotel of Grovefield House Hotel was woefully below expectations and left me illegitimately out of pocket by 200 pounds as a legitimate guest. Our negative experience revolves around the overzealous monitoring of the hotel car park and the lack of guidance offered by the some front of house staff regarding the parking arrangements of our vehicle. At no stage were we told to submit the registration of our vehicle. This meant our vehicle was treated as being parked illegitimately. You can imagine our shock when we were billed through our hire car company for 600 pounds in parking fines even though we were legitimate guests. Twice we were fined and twice we needed to contact your hotel to have the parking fines voided. The third time I did not see the email and I only noticed I had been fined once more when the fine of 200 pounds appeared on my credit card statement. When I appealed to the front of house staff by telephone I met by indifference and complacency, an attitude that ultimately had the boldness to blame me as the customer. Even though the duty manager promised to investigate, I have not heard anything more from him. With such illegitimate fines and poor service like this currently Grovefield House does not deserve to host any guests in the near future.
