I have been staying at the City Hotel regularly for the past five years, usually at least once every 6–8 weeks. Over that time, I have spent a significant amount of money at your hotel and have always enjoyed staying there. On my most recent visit, I booked in, paid for parking, and entered my own vehicle registration into your system. Unfortunately, I completely forgot to register my partner's car as well. A week later, my partner received a £40 parking charge. Before she had the chance to deal with it, the charge was increased to £170. I find this completely unacceptable. As a loyal customer who has supported your hotel for years, I would have expected a little understanding over what was clearly a genuine mistake. Increasing a £40 charge to £170 is excessive and, in my opinion, unfair. This experience has completely changed my view of the hotel. After years of loyal custom, I am extremely disappointed with how this has been handled. Unless this matter is resolved fairly, I will not be returning to the City Hotel and will not be recommending it to others.

While I appreciate the building has ongoing renovations I didn't expect areas that are open to the public to be so grim and dirty. At 5.30pm 25th july 26 I went to the bar while I waited for my transport home . A young barman asked " what can I get ye ? " okay then so pub greeting not hotel welcome . I was served a glass of wine in a wet glass I mean water inside and out , the barman made a big deal of shaking excess water out of it before pouring my wine in. If he noticed my shock he didnt react . I sat at one of the sofas and looking round the only way I can describe it is a cross between a wetherspoons and a retirement home , the sofas had stains , the windows dirty , cobwebs dangled from light fittings . £9 is the dearest I have ever been charged for a glass of wine in my entire life and I am widely travelled but to charge such extortionate prices while provide a substandard service is shocking . I do not recommend the city hotel to anyone , take a few extra steps around the corner to the Maiden City hotel and be greeted with kindness by their staff and sit in gorgeous stain free seats

Average at best during its renovation, it's definitely not the place to be during a heat wave. The room had one window that barely opened, but thankfully the hotel did have a fan we could borrow -- a necessity without AC. The furniture and fixtures definitely need updating as they are scratched and literally coming apart at the edges. The hotel offers onsite parking, plus there are two public lots nearby (all paid). The location is great, but the negatives during our stay outweighed any positives.
