Mercure Last Drop Village Hotel & Spa Bolton

We were staying at the hotel to attend a birthday party at the nearby golf club. On the plus side, the bed was massive and the room and bathroom were of a good size. Unfortunately that’s where the good points end. The downsides were the room we stayed in was very tired and dated. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls and we were left with someone else’s rubbish in one of the drawers. The bathroom wasn’t as clean as it could’ve been. We visited during a heatwave and the room was like an oven with no air con and a window that we could only open a couple of inches. We asked for a fan at reception but they said they didn’t have one to give us. We didn’t sleep well, due to the heat and uncomfortable bed and pillows. Breakfast was unfortunately a bit hit and miss - the staff were lovely, but had to ask four times for someone to take our breakfast order. The water had run out and even when it was refilled the glass container tap didn’t work. Points for the bar staff and breakfast staff-all were polite and friendly but run off their feet. I don’t think we’d stay here again when visiting friends or for any events.

Unbearable room temperature and the fan supplied was no use. "It's an old building" is not an excuse in this day and age. We were also told that they had the same problems with all the rooms so they know it's a problem and haven't done anything about it. We gave up trying to sleep and went home.

Ok hotel in a pretty area. Room was clean but tired. MALE Staff member letting themselves into my room at 1.05AM was a particular highlight. As a woman travelling alone this was exceptionally frightening. Call reception to be told "oh your room was showing as vacant on the system" I see the review a week ago had the same lame excuse from the reception staff. Apparently they needed a fan. Impossible to get hold of anyone to complain about it. As the room I was in lead out to a courtyard that anyone can just stroll into - this is NOT good enough. Your staff need retraining at minimum. Better would be fitting all your hotel doors with chains or dead bolts to ensure your guests safety.
