Legacy Hollin Hall Country House Hotel

Dont be fooled by the beautiful frontage and fancy description. Stupidly we didnt look at the reviews before booking this and to say it was unpleasant would be an understatement. First impressions of a grand entrance and sweeping staircase were shortlived as we were given directions to our room on the groundfloor. We went through the door to what seemed like an entirely different hotel. Scruffy, stank of cannabis, room was awful. Awful bed and pillows. Having driven a long way and hungry we went to the restaurant to order food. The cheap cafe tables are too high for the battered chairs and you look like a child sitting at a table. A fancy menu was produced, £20 a meal. The description of said meals seemed to be worth the price. It wasnt An hour of waiting and we were presented with a childs plate of prison food. The driest chicken burger with 2 rocket leaves in it and some cheap fries. Asked for the manager and instead of coming over herself she sent a young lad who looked like he was going to cry. They couldnt seem to grasp the fact that it wasnt acceptable for £20!! We didnt eat dinner. Theres a beautiful indian 10 mins down the road for half the price. Breakfast was on a cold plate, lukewarm food. Very average. When we went in for breakfast the staff were actually sat eating their breakfast and chatting! Filthy carpets throughout the hotel. Scruffy and full of very young staff taking the brunt of complaints while the manager hides.

My husband and I had a pleasant 2 night stay at this hotel while we attended a Reunion in Lyme Park. The food in the restaurant was excellent both at Dinner and Breakfast. Our room was comfortable but more drawers would have been welcome. We had a couple of issues in the ensuite bathroom, however. There was no seal at the bottom of the shower screen over the bath which meant the floor was flooded every time the shower was used. The tap at the sink was loose which meant holding it with one hand while turning on with the other. The plug didn't hold water in the sink. We reported these faults but only when we checked out as we coped. All the staff were friendly and courteous.

Absolutely dreadful. We booked an overnight stay to go to a party in Bollington. Thank goodness we spent as little time as possible in the room. We were put in an annexe. It was completely run down with stains and tears in the carpet in the corridor, lights flashing on and off and a horrible smell. Our first keycard didn't work. We had to go back to reception to get it changed. When we got into the room it smelled of cigarette smoke. The window looked on to a shabby brick wall and there were lots of cigarette butts outside. Back to Reception. We were moved to a room 2 doors down. It wasn't much better. The carpet was filthy, the furniture had bits hanging off, some of the lights didn't work, the shower ran hot, then cold, then hot..... Still cigarette butts outside the window. This is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel. The photos do not show these awful bedrooms on the website. We will never go back.
