Puma The Palace Hotel

Never a 4 star hotel! Staff were friendly and mainly helpful, but in truth the hotel desperately needs renovation and updating. Our room (152) was just about passable but, was small VERY HOT and noisy. Plus all the electric sockets were hidden behind furniture , none of the lamps or the fan were plugged in.! Only one bedside cabinet. The pillows were as hard as rock! Why on earth the hotel doesn’t invest in some quality pillows is baffling! Almost everything about the breakfast was cheap except the price! VERY cheap juices , watered down apple juice, cheap tinned fruit, cheap sausages dreadful horrid bitter coffee from coffee machine. To add to all that I had a pint of Tetleys which was off, cloudy smelt nasty. So management need to wake up and get a grip. Such a shame as could be so much better

This was the most expensive and most disappointing hotel on our entire trip of 15 days. The so called "accessible" room was up a steep flight of stairs which were covered in a dingy musty smelling carpet. The room was not particularly clean. There was a parking charge even though we were staying overnight plus a £10 charge for the dog but nothing provided for her. The menu was very limited and my fish pie had 4 slivers of fish in it. The rest was a medley of small diced vegetable in a creamy sauce including courgettes! who puts courgettes in a fish pie? not at all pleasant. A hotel probably resting on its laurels from a grander age. If it hadn't been fortwo large coach parties there would have hardly been many other guests.

There is lots to like here - Position, the look, (on the day) the staff. However, because there were no power sockets where you might expect them (bedside, desk, etc.) I put my charger into the, out of sight, fan socket - AND therfore forgot it when I left. The only helpful bit was confirmation that they found it. Their solution was less than helpful - Either go back (330 mile roundtrip) or pay to post them a pre-paid jiffy bag - size ? weight ?. I am not impressed
