MERCURE NORTON GRANGE ROCHDALE

Fantastic pre-wedding stay at The Norton Grange! 5-star spa, breakfast, and staff We have provisionally booked our wedding through Charlotte, who won Wedding Planner of the Year in 2025. This is an amazing feat! Normally, you would expect a 4-star hotel to charge £30,000 per wedding, but think again. Their wedding packages—with everything and I mean everything included—budget at about £7k in high season. Now that is a price easily affordable for a budget-friendly wedding, but with the high-end experience of a hotel like Claridge's in London! We happily paid our deposit about 14 months ago, and we wouldn't trust our wedding with anybody else. We are even going to start attending the hotel's theme nights, which are so rare these days; getting a meal and entertainment for about £25 is great value.We returned for a one-night spa break this weekend on 21 August 2026. Our room was amazingly clean and very comfortable—honestly, probably the best night's sleep we have had in a long time! The grounds themselves are spectacular; there wasn't a single cigarette end on the floor and no overflowing bins anywhere. Whilst at the hotel, we saw some bridesmaids enjoying the spa before their big day, which was very reassuring to see as future wedding clients. The staff throughout our stay were fantastic; nothing was too much trouble, and the entire hotel was spotless. Staff members spoke to me professionally as "Sir", and the cleaning staff were exceptionally well-mannered, as were the reception staff. One wonderful highlight happened whilst we were waiting for the lift. A cleaner's trolley was nearby, filled with fresh towels, biscuits, and sundries. My partner joked that we could do with a couple of packets of biscuits, and at that exact moment, a very friendly staff member was passing by. Laughingly, he happily gave us some biscuits! It was a small gesture, but it's exactly the kind of thing that makes all the difference—and to top it off, they were a really high-quality biscuit. Because of service like this, we have absolutely no concerns about the accommodation or food requirements for our upcoming wedding day. On Saturday morning, we visited the spa, which was definitely a 5-star experience. The food during our stay was also excellent. I usually find that fish and chips from takeaways are never the best, but the version here featured a large portion of fresh white fish with a beautifully light batter. The buffet breakfast the next morning was of exceptional quality with a large selection of food, from cereal and fruit to espresso drinks, quality sausage, quality bacon, quality baked beans, and quality toasted bread. The food was regularly replaced, so never at any time did you need to ask for refills. Unlike a standard bed and breakfast where everything is at the lowest level of quality with catering sausages and cheap bacon, The Norton Grange is far, far removed from that, offering quality ingredients at every level. Overall, the breakfast and dinner were exactly as expected from a 4-star hotel, offering great quality at a price that works well for the working person. Having a quick cup of tea on the front terrace while the sun was shining and the birds were singing made the break feel perfect. We only noticed a couple of minor areas for improvement, though I might just be being a bit fussy! The chicken and mash was just okay, but there wasn't enough sauce for me (and as someone whose forte is making a good sauce, I always notice!). Some rooms had left out trays of old food in the corridors which were left overnight, so clearing those faster could be a slight improvement. The house wine was also quite poor—at £4.50 a glass, I wouldn't recommend it, though the draught cider was very nice and reasonably priced. There was a slight mistake at checkout where reception tried to charge us £9.00 for the wine, but once we explained we had a token, this was rectified swiftly and professionally. Finally, just to be a bit picky, the spa bathrobes were on the smaller side Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and we cannot wait to have our wedding here! We had afternoon tea in the Pickwicks Bistro - the room has been very smartly redecorated, the waiter was professional and the food itself very good - sandwiches were lovely - ham, chicken, egg mayonnaise and tuna - very fresh and more than enough each. there were three slices of cake apiece which were also very nice, but the cheesecake was a little rich for me. The scones came with proper clotted cream and jam - large pot of tea each to go with it and a very reasonable £20 each - in this day and age very good value.

Can’t fault this hotel - clean and bathroom was clean, however the clientele is strange we saw a drunken altercation as we walked in then there were drunken guests in rooms - during the altercation no security was present. The spa was amazing clean and the whirlpool was warm hot as it should be, however walked into ladies changing rooms to see man changing with a padded bikini- if mercure accepts trans people fine we are happy however they should get their own changing rooms and not impose their beliefs on to women who are vulnerable in a changing room
