Mercure Wigan Oak Hotel

Really nice staff who greeted me at reception and throughout my stay. also had the breakfast it was presented well and really hot. Portion side was good and tasted really nice high five to the Chef's in this hot weather I would come back again if passing through

On other reviews you will read things that may put you off. For me, for what the room rate is, its excellent value for money. Yes dated, could do with touch ups but beds are comfy with big pillows, bathroom large with a great shower and bath. TVs in room and Netfix and Prime plus other apps are all free to use. Ideal if you have kids. I had Breakfast and it was nice. As well as a cooked one, lots on offer for continetal too. Member of staff i dealt with was great. If i was coming to Wigan again, i would stop here.

This hotel was an overnight stop on the outward and return journey on a coach holiday. The room was clean. Hot water for both a shower and a bath. Lovely decent sized towels. No glass or disposable cup for rinsing your mouth after cleaning your teeth. Had to report that one side of the double bed was at an angle. Base was either broken or had given way. Think it was 2 singles pushed together. Staff were friendly but at meal times they were disorganised. Even though they took your order they still asked what you had asked for. The wait for different courses bordered on ridiculous, farcical in fact. They definitely need training in organisational skills. The lift broke down and was out of action so you had to bring your case down the stairway. There was a note on the lift saying if you needed assistant to contact reception. Nice hotel, just need organisation skills training in dealing with a lot of people.
