Had a lovely 2 night stay at The Liner Hotel. Such a warm welcome from Rachel on reception who along with the other staff we spoke with was very helpful and friendly. We really appreciated the room upgrade for my birthday celebration. The breakfast was very good and though we didn't have a meal in the restaurant it looked excellent value. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future

I booked direct with the hotel by phone (unusual for me), hoping this would get me the best price, but having checked on other booking sites. I am not convinced this is the case. As we were only staying one night at short notice, I did not put a lot of effort into chasing down the best deal, but would check this out more carefully in future.
The location is very convenient, whether arriving by train at the adjacent Lime Street Station, or by car, as the hotel has its own large car park which is free to hotel guests.
Externally the hotel is a rather unattractive (1970s?) building, but at least you can’t see it once inside.
The ocean liner theme is evident as soon as you enter the lobby, with lots of dark wood, brass, portholes etc. The reception desk is styled as the Purser’s Desk. Check-in process was good, with pleasant and helpful staff.
The corridors and public areas have something of a liner feel to them, but once inside the room (sorry, cabin), it is basically a bog-standard hotel room, in our case an entry-level twin-bedded room. Not even any ocean liner prints or posters on the walls nor a porthole in the bathroom door. More effort needed with the liner theme, I feel.
I think the hotel was last refurbished several years ago and our room looked rather frayed around the edges with e.g. wallpaper starting to peel. It was a bit annoying that there were no power sockets (let alone USB ports) by the beds. There was a fridge which might come in handy for keeping drinks cool. The room was clean and tidy and reasonably spacious. The free WiFi worked well.
There was no air conditioning in our room, just a radiator and a window which could be opened slightly. A fan was provided, and I imagine the room could get very hot in high summer. Our room had a view of the train shed and approaches to Lime Street Station, which as a railway buff was a positive aspect to our stay. The station announcements are quite loud with the window open.
We didn’t eat in the hotel so can’t comment on the food.
Overall, a pretty decent hotel, and I would stay there again if I could get a good deal.

Reception staff were very helpful and hotel was spotless, the down side was the castaway bar to small for the size of hotel, a member of staff who was tall with reddish hair was curt with me when I asked him why we had ordered a pizza and was still waiting fifty minutes later he said nothing to do with me if your are not happy go speak to someone in the main restaurant think he needs to have customer service training, also other people who had food did not have cutlery had to search in a tray on the bar for them not really hygiene every person handling them should be brought separately, otherwise the breakfast was excellent and staff the were so helpful only gripe was the barman in the castaway bar .
