Dukes Folly Hotel

Booked a Deluxe double. Walked into a room so cold in early September that the radiator was stone dead and the towels on the bed were damp to the touch. Damp towels. Think about what that says — how long had that room sat there, cold and unused, before they sold it to me as their premium option? I asked the manager for heat. He brought me the smallest heater in the building. In a room that was already small, it did nothing. I worked at the desk in my coat, then got into bed in a t-shirt under the duvet just to stop shivering. The bathroom had no air circulation whatsoever and the smell was vile. The only warm thing in the whole room was the little bathroom radiator, so I draped my biggest towel over it — the only warm towel I had that night. At 1am I tried to shower. Water trickled out with no pressure, and inside two minutes the warm water — never hot, just warm — vanished completely. And here's the part that finishes it: the sink ran hot. Hot water in the sink, nothing in the shower. So this isn't a boiler that failed on the night. This is a shower they know doesn't work and rent out anyway. I went to bed cold, wet and unwashed. Breakfast, to finish the experience. The listing says continental included, fine — I assumed I could pay for something hot. No. There is no hot breakfast. At any price. What you get is a boiled egg, some ham and cheese, bread, a bit of bakery, cereal, tea and coffee. Photos attached. That's it. In a hotel that isn't remotely the cheapest in Southport. Every bit of this was reported to Hotels.com at the time, while I was still there. I rarely leave reviews and I don't invent problems. I'm writing this because people are booking a "good hotel" and getting a cold room, a dead shower and a plate of ham. One star only because zero isn't an option.

Myself and my daughter stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting family who live just down the road. We had room 1 on the ground floor which had a large super king bed. Room was clean but bathroom was on the small side and the shower was hit and miss with water pressure and temperature! We had dimner on the 1st night and all of our party were happy with our meals. Breakfast was continental and ok for us with the usual toast, cereal options etc. Fruit for yoghurt was tinned but im ok with that. Staff were friendly especially the young ones (mention for Ollie) we would stay again maybe not on the ground floor.

Good location for Flower Show and Lord Street . Suggested car parking in church car park opposite was £1 cheaper than on street parking . Room was good size , comfortable bed and clean linen . Lift to all floors. Room we had was an accessible room but mirror positioned too high for wheelchair user . Continental breakfast was poor to average , tinned fruit , brown or white bread to toast yourself, mini croissants , mini muffins , plain yoghurt, cereal , sliced processed ham and cheese. Filter coffee to make yourself so bit of guesswork as to how it tasted , only cold milk , hot would have been better for drinks . Partner had a £8.50 cooked breakfast ( weekends only ) can't say it was cooked well, brown edge fried egg ( no choice of how egg was cooked ) OK for a night but probably not any longer .
