Prince Of Wales Hotel

Lovely old Hotel, ideal central location. Large bedroom with newly decorated toilet with large walk in shower which was ideal due to my mobility issues. large tv , tea and coffee facilities, furniture a bit dated but was fine for our needs All staff very helpful and friendly. Some lovely features in the hotel especially the large Ballroom. Was not keen on the breakfast, sausages were terrible, asked for poached eggs one morning for my partner only to be told she could get them tomorrow morning which i found strange as it would only take a couple of minutes to make. I asked for porridge one morning, (sorry i did) it tasted absolutely terrible, was as if they had just poured hot milk over raw oats. The evening meals were completely different , they were absolutely delicious, Roast beef one night , Roast Turkey another both were beautiful, the best evening meals I have had on a Caladonian coach tour and i have been on a few. Would i return ? YES most definitely.

We have stayed here on several occasions over the years & always enjoyed our experience, but we have just had a night away there this weekend and it's apparent that standards have dropped. It was 3 0' clock and we were parched after a long journey & a mooch around the shops, but when we got to the hotel bar .. it was closed ! When asked what time it would be open .. we were told maybe about 4 0' clock ! What kind of hotel has a bar that doesn't open until 4pm ? There wasn't even anywhere we could get a coffee ! On the leaflet provided in our room it stated that the bar opened at 12.30 on Saturdays ! We ended up giving our business to the Southport coaster over the road ! Breakfast was ok ... but not as good as it has been in the past. We probably won't pay for that option again, it would be cheaper to get it from one of the many eateries on Lord street opposite the hotel.

I’ve been generous giving a 4 - 3.5 would be about right Good things: location, room size and facilities, decor of shared areas and conference rooms etc. all staff friendly and welcoming. Room temperature good in the context of mild weather outdoors. Attending an event at the hotel and the facilities were great and staying in hotel made it more relaxing. Bad things: breakfast almost inedible (and I do not say that lightly), travelling with a young child and placed directly over reception where loud music, singing and clapping (audience participation) takes place until 10pm or later - why choose that room for us? room also has a door to next room through which can hear neighbours conversations!
