Antonine Hotel

Great central location, friendly staff and very good value. However there is a big BUT. ... facilities minimal, no WiFi in room, decor run down, bedding v dated, tiling in bathroom dodgy, towel with hole in it, heating didn’t work properly .. also strange hotel layout.. like going through hotel from The Shining... walking through long empty corridors, and abandoned ballroom

Pictures make the place very appealing, instead it is in need of some TLC, would not recommend it to anyone, power went off first thing in the morning when we switched the kettle on, shower head was broken

If you're the kind of person who is not bothered about staying in a place that has: 1. no hot water 2. unidentifiable splatter stains on the walls by the bed 3. a kinda botched-job DIY feel to it 4. a lift that creaks and groans as if it's gonna give out any second 5. Beds/mattresses that leave much to be desired ... then yes, this is the low-budget hotel you're looking for. If not, stay well away. To be fair, the one staff member that we met at the front desk seemed kind and helpful. Also, although I was initially scared to climb into the bed after having soaked up the general vibe of the hotel within the first 10 minutes of our stay, the sheets and duvet smelled and looked clean. However, for me, this was not enough to redeem the experience. There was a definite smell of stale smoke on the floor we were staying on. The T.V. didn't work and the WiFi signal didn't reach the floor we were on. The windows were grubby and looked onto a view of a derelict rooftop (although the rest of Falkirk in the background was pretty decent). I don't consider myself overly fussy but I've definitely stayed in nicer Air bnb's (and hotels) for similar prices. I assume the hotel is just too cover the running costs hence it's fallen into disrepair. The corridors were spooky as hell. This was actually one of the only selling points for me as it gave the place a bit of edge. I look forward to some twisted 'The Shining' inspired nightmares where I'm being chased through them by Jack Nicholson.
