Boisdale Hotel

We booked by phone a family room at the Lairg but when we arrived we had accomodation at the Boisdale - a "sister" b&b - same street, just beside The Lairg. The manager (in service for both hotels) asked us 10 gbp more than the rate told us by phone, we complained it wasn't a nice behavoiur but no use; we had to pay 10 gbp more. In the evening the manger handled to my son (aged 17) an evenlope and inside it we got the 10 gbp back ...! The room was very very large and comfortable. Bathroom is very small. We found the location far from city center and parking (not free) is far, too. English breakfast (at The Lairg, no breakfast room at the Boisdale - you must walk few steps out in the street) was very good. We had good news from home while staying at the Boisdale, therefore we had really good time and we enjoyed our stay very much. We could easily suggest this accomodation to everybody if the don't mind about parking and get a bus to city center.

The Boisdale Hotel is next door, and has the same owner as the Lairg Hotel , so for more reviews, look up the Lairg. They are both managed by Rimus, who goes out of his way to accomodate guests. Three of us shared room 10, which had a double and single bed, and an added smaller bed. All the rooms are large and spacious, the quiter ones being the ones at the back overlooking the garden, but this is not a noisy street anyway. It's about a 20 minute walk to Waverley Bridge, a few mins to Haymarket Station, and there's a bus stop just around the corner, if you don't want to walk. It's also very close to the Water of Leith Walkway and the Gallery of Modern Art. From the airport, take bus 100 and get off at Haymarket Station. The breakfasts are excellent -a large choice menu includes smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, kipper, and vegetarian options, and the buffet has a large choice of cakes,croissants etc. You won't go hungry here.. The only negatives I can think of are that our shower was fiddly -hot one moment,cold the next -but there are plans to improve this -and that there is no lift. You need to be fairly fit to carry your luggage up to room 10!
