Stayed here recently with friends before a girlie night out.... Lovely place, great location and good value for money. Would definately recommend and would have no hesitation booking these apartments again.

These apartments appear to be a bit of a lottery. The one we stayed at - No.10 James Court - was a little rough around the edges, but it was clean and offered one of the best locations in Edinburgh for a mere £25 per head, based on a family of four. The WiFi was fine and although the owner warned about the plumbing, we didn't have any problems waiting for hot water.
This apartment is ideal for budget travellers and backpackers, with a fully equipped kitchen.
The sitting room offers a great view of Lawnmarket and you'll either love or hate the constant noise of people and bagpipes.
The double bedroom at the back is much quieter and the bed was very comfortable.
The curtains are too thin, so bring a nightshade. I also thought the bedding was a little sparse for the two sofa beds.
Older travellers and those with very young children should be aware that it's a long walk up several flights of a winding stone staircase.
In a nutshell, I'd happily go again because the location and price were very good. My wife wouldn't, as she thinks that carpet stains and cheap-looking decor are more important than a prime location. However, she did concede that the apartment was clean and wouldn't have minded it when she was younger.

I'm a little confused on where some of the other reviewers stayed. Some of the reviews were definately not at the Castle Apartments that we stayed at. My wife and I had an apartment on Lawnmarket. It was one of the apartments on the top floor. It has a stone, spiral staircase with a rope handrail on the last spiral. Our apartment was very clean, and well furnished (dated but in good condition). We had a full kitchen, which was very handy. Since there was no grocery store close by, the desk attendant went shopping for us. That was very nice of him! The windows at one end of the apartment overlooked the Royal Mile, and the back bedroom window faced the park. It was a great location! We never needed a car. The Castle, museum, art gallery, restaurants, and other attractions were all within walking distance. It was everything we needed (we didn't need a spa, room service, or a furnished breakfast). We thought the price was quite reasonable also. We would definately stay here again.
