Edinburgh Thistle Guest House

Had a really lovely stay at Edinburgh thistle. The staff we met are lovely and are a credit to the hotel. Breakfast was so good and very generous and service spot on. Really nice guy looking after us. The rooms were quiet, just a bit cold. Bathroom and room quite tired and could do with modernising. Maybe a hand towel would be good. Other than that cannot fault the place: Great location and again the staff are wonderful and full of recommendations. Thanks again for making us so welcome

I’ve stayed in better squats. The furniture is beyond worn and tired and bathroom full of damp, probably due to the extractor fan not working. Better to spend a bit more money and getting somewhere in a bit better condition.

I really wanted to give myself a few days to cool off before I write this review. I made the mistake of only reading the reviews on Booking.com, where I booked this awful accommodation and they were a lot better than the ones in here. We walked in the room after picking up our keys from an envelope. It was a big room with space for 5 people. Says on the wall, we may have upgraded your room, however if you touch anything, you have to pay. First of all, if this was an upgrade, I really don’t want to imagine how the rest of the rooms look like. You switch on the light, but out of 10 bulbs, only 2 working. You put your bags on the bed and from the lightest weight the bed squeaks like there is no tomorrow. The room is ice cold along with the floor, no space to put your belongings. From the inside room, opens the bathroom. If you are a director and planning a horror movie.. this is your place to shoot. Rusty heater, a locked cupboard with a big padlock on it, thick dirt behind the toilet, suspicious marks on the shower and not to mention the filth in every corner. Oh almost forget, of course the water doesn’t go down the drain either. I read the reviews about the bed bugs so my friend and I couldn’t sleep all night, felt itchy all the time (this turned out to be my overthinking only), so instead of wondering around the city the next day, we jumped in the car and went back home as fast as possible. Only good things about this place is the free on street parking and the park with cute dogs. Never again, still having nightmares from this place.
