Only positive is the location. Below average accomodation and rude and unfriendly staff. Totally overpriced for what is on offer. Would not recommend or return.

I think that many Americans can go into international travel with warped expectations. They expect big rooms with big beds. They also expect things to be ADA friendly. Well, that is often not the case in Scotland as well as many other countries. With that in mind, realize that the rooms are quite small at the Grassmarket Hotel as well as the beds. This is not a luxury hotel which is fine. Where it excels most is its location. The Grassmarket is right in the middle of a thriving area of the Old Town. It also has one of the liveliest pubs I have ever seen just off its lobby. When it comes to the elderly or people with mobility issues or light sleepers, you might be better served elsewhere. There are winding hallways, many stairs and nearby pubs that stay open quite late at night. That being said, the service was adequate and the location excellent.

Was so disappointed with this hotel. Our room was supposed to be twin beds. Yes. Two narrow beds but stuck together. Person by the window had to climb out the bottom of the bed to get in and out. The room was very hot even with a fan. Also very noisy as it was right beside the very busy pub. Frosted glass bathroom but you could see the outline of the other person.
