Sherwood Guest House

We had a wonderful stay at Sherwood Guest House. The room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location was perfect—close enough to the city centre to explore easily, while still being in a peaceful area. Vivienne was the best host and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. She gave us loads of great recommendations for attractions, places to eat, and things to do around Edinburgh, which really made our trip even better. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice, and the attention to detail throughout our stay really stood out. We’ll definitely be back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Sherwood Guest House to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Thank you for such a lovely stay! Ps: My partner and I had the best sleeps!

The location is near to the city but if the parkingplace in front of the house is taken (probably is, not enough space) your have to walk 10 minutes with your belongings from your car. The rooms are very small and the bed is only 1,35x1,90m and makes noises. You can hear other people talking in the next room. Lot of noice from the street. The fridge is very small (fits only 4 small bottles of water) and is jammed in a closet with the rest (microwave, bin etc.). No room for your belongings. Breakfast is oke bu only between 8 and 9 and you have to share the jar of nutella etc.

Sherwood Guest House is in a great location with a wonderful host, Vivienne, who makes you feel right at home. She provides a detailed book with any and all information needed, with everything from bus routes (conveniently close by) to restaurant recommendations to the nearest laundry facilities. She is onsite and happily answered my questions and gave me great advice, such as walking by the Meadows my first trip into town. My room had a mini-fridge, a microwave, and an electric tea kettle with tea/coffee. There was cold water and milk for the tea/coffee in the fridge, and in my wardrobe a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The location is amazing! I walked to Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat, The Meadows was right around the corner, and High Street was a straight walk down Minto. Each day I walked out the door, took a left on the sidewalk, and it was a straight route to High Street. I felt like a local rather than a tourist, and as a solo female traveler, I felt safe in that I did not have to take my phone or a map out for directions to my destinations. There are many restaurants to choose from nearby, and it is also close to the university. I took a cab from the train station when I arrived because I had a large suitcase, but could have easily walked had I taken lighter luggage. Guests have their own entrance and the provided breakfast was perfect! I cannot wait to return to Edinburgh and will stay here again. I stayed in hotels in London and Dublin while on this journey and Sherwood GH outshined them both thanks to Vivienne’s thoughtfulness and attention to detail.
