The Broughton Hotel - B&B

The Broughton Townhouse is a delight tucked away in quiet street but still very central (10 minutes walk from Princes Street) and on the doorstep of a wealth of great restaurants and fun bars on Broughton Street. A family run business, the owners couldn't be more helpful in recommending places close by or further afield or even what bus or tram to catch. The rooms and staircase are clean, tidy and decorated with beautiful pictures and objects which help build an engaging ambience.

We stayed three nights at the Broughton Townhouse in Edinburgh, and we were extremely disappointed. Upon arrival, there was no one at the reception, and we had not received the entry code. After several unsuccessful calls (the phone number that was sent to us by email was not assigned), we finally managed to reach the manager who finally provided us with the building and our room codes. This room was tiny, and the bathroom was as well. The sink was broken and poorly repaired. The cleanliness was questionable, and the room was not heated even though it was very cold. Aside from the rather pleasant neighborhood, there is nothing positive about this establishment, which is quite expensive and that we absolutely do not recommend.

Where to start - easy instructions for access, as I got through the door there was the sweetest selection of Christmas nibbles and a little glasses to help yourself to a tipple! So, after mini mince pie and a little Baileys was just the treat I needed after a long day of travel and work! Chris, the owner came to say hello and offered to carry my bag to the top floor and showed me where I was staying. The room was perfect - so tastefully done, lovely shower room, fabulous selection of teas and coffee and hot chocolate! Great snacks too. I sat with a cup of tea in bed to relax for a moment and the next thing I knew - I had fallen asleep!! Beautifully decorated throughout, friendly welcome, a comfy bed and a great nights sleep - I so hope to be back soon. Thank you!
