The City Hotel

Overnight stay with family before flying on holiday the next day. Clean room and nice dinner and breakfast had in hotel, friendly staff and all for a good price. Will stay again.

We were going to a show at the Alhambra theatre and stayed at the City hotel for 1 night, we booked a twin room which had 3 single beds in it, the room was lovely with tea and coffee making facilities, the toilet and shower room was also nice and modern, great choice for breakfast, after our show we came back to the hotel and had cocktails in the bar which were fab, we checked out of the hotel at the allotted time and we decided to go sightseeing and shopping, the lovely lady on reception allowed us to leave our luggage until we were ready to go home, we arrived back at the hotel at about 4pm and had another 3 cocktails before we got picked up to go home, would definitely recommend this hotel and its central location.

Our trip started well after we e-mailed with a request for a lower level room. They replied very promptly and upon arrival we were located on the first floor. Having booked a "super executive room" at a hefty price we were expecting something special, it wasn't. A good size but sparsely furnished with no wall decoration and a small TV was the only thing on the walls. The bathroom was a good size and nicely finished, except where a radiator pipe came out from the wall and it hadn't been sealed. 4 coat hangers and no hairdryer with a cheap electric kettle and tea and coffee rounded off a very disappointing room. The restaurant was decent enough and the evening meal was pretty good along with good service. The price of a can of coke, close to £3, was eye watering, so much for encouraging people not to drink alcohol. A decent nights sleep considering our room faced the road, no complaints there. To finish off our trip breakfast was very poor. The full Scottish turned up with a cremated sausage on one side which had the burnt side face down, that had me fooled. Deep fried potato scone is not my thing and the haggis was bland. Overall, at the price, I wouldn't return.
