Just returned from our third visit to the White Lodge, and having given it 5 stars on the previous two, I decided this time I WOULD find a reason to complain regardless of how petty the reason. It’s a Scottish thing, we are programmed to find something to moan about)
Arrived after the long drive south east from Scotland ( 8 hours in all) and was rather hoping there would be a lack of parking available. This would allow me to get my complaint noted early, but alas, multiple parking spots available immediately outside the premises so no opportunity there , but early days with plenty of time to find fault I’m sure.
Frustratingly Jean had even got our room prepared early for us, which given the aforementioned lengthy drive, was very much appreciated and her traditional warm welcome merely eliminated another opportunity for me to complete my mission. Undeterred we made our way to our room. Spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable temperature, huge bed with a tremendous view across to the sea. Plenty storage space, tea coffee etc. All very frustrating !!
The location of the hotel is fantastic, being a pleasant 15 minute stroll along the Venetian waterway to the main town and all its attractions, and a similar length stroll to the racecourse. The primary reason for our visit was the 3 day racing festival, so the location is absolutely perfect for us.
As you’ll have gathered my endeavours to find fault were proving fruitless, with probably the breakfast going to be my last opportunity. No such luck I’m afraid. Quality of the breakfast is superb. Fresh, tasty ( clearly the best of ingredients) and plentiful. Cereals, yoghurts, fruit etc and a wonderful full English cooked to perfection. Really sets you up for the day.
So despite my best efforts sadly I have to report I failed miserably in my ‘ find a fault’ mission, and 5 stars it has to be, but fear not, I’ll be back again reinvigorated and determined to succeed.
On a serious note, tyvm Jean for yet another wonderful stay, we’re genuinely sad when it’s time to say goodbye. Your offer to prepare us a packed lunch for the long trip home was extremely kind but given your caring personality, no surprise really. Your dedication and commitment to providing guests with a memorable stay is a credit to you and you deserve every ounce of the credit you are afforded in the reviews.
I should add our appreciation to the young lad who assists with the breakfasts in the morning . Cheery and pleasant and a credit to you)
See you next year , when I WILL find something to gripe about) 😇
