Chequers Inn

Popped in for a quick drink one warm evening… Sadly not the lovely pub it once used to be. The rear outdoor area was scruffy, beer barrels piled high, outdoor dining in pods looked as if they needed a good clean. At the front on nearly every table, there were ashtrays full of cigarette butts, not a days worth either, neglected planters, the whole place needed a good sweep and some serious TLC. Run by kids, would not return.

My husband and I booked a one night stay to escape from work and the London heatwave. We have stayed here before but didn't eat the first time. The dining room was beyond disappointing. From a GDPR breach due to an open laptop clearly displaying everyone's names to a shortage of food! The Supervisor told us that there were only two roasts left but they were able to offer us pie and chips! After us came a table of seven people who had to wait twenty minutes for the delivery of the bad news. As our table was booked for 7pm on a Sunday in July, we had no choice but to stay. The following morning we checked out with the manager who proudly displayed her weekly figures on the laptop and told us they were having a record week. Three grand up on last year. This was adding insult to injury and totally uncalled for as the figures came at the expense of Customer Service. We will never return to The Chequers and, quite frankly, neither should anyone else.

We visited this pub/restaurant the other evening , we chose it as it had the most choice for vegetarians , which is pretty rare in this area ! We received very friendly welcome from the bar staff , who explained the system for ordering food . Surprisingly it wasn’t very busy & there were lots of places to sit . We chose a lovely little cabin outside . Food arrived promptly & was very good , not overly expensive either . Hubby had fish out I had spiced potato & chickpea pie . Only thing I could fault was I had to ask for the table to be cleaned as seemed quite dirty . Will return & thoroughly recommend !
