Sea Marge Hotel

We didn’t stay at the hotel we just ate a meal in the bar/restaurant. It was a Thursday night and it wasn’t a great experience. One of us had a steak, it was very fatty and poor quality. One of us had small plates, whitebait, crab tacos and popcorn cockles; very disappointing. Would not recommend at all. Staff were nice enough but altogether an odd experience. Taxi to Cromer advised!

Let's start off by mentioning two staff members. 'Trinity' and 'Cassidy' who are a credit to their staff team, as they were always friendly, smiling, and hard working. The location of this establishment is quite pleasing, with a breath taking coastal view and gardens. Set in the village of Overstrand, there is a corner shop a few hundred yards away, and a carboot sale that takes place every Thursday morning. The coastal path runs behind the hotel, but there is not direct access. There is a choice of different rooms depending on what budget you are on. We chose a delux room with a sea view.... £850 for three nights including breakfast. The room was spacious and clean, with a spa bath and twin basins in the ensuite. However, the down point was having the lift next door. The noise coming from the lift could be heard quite clearly in this room, especially around 10pm. Breakfast is served between 8am and 10am with a choice ranging from continental to a full English. This was cooked to a good quality. Lunch is available from the bar, with a range of sandwiches and snacks on offer. Evening meals are available from the bar area and the restaurant. However, we noted that evening meals were not always consistent with cooking or presentation. I suppose it depends on which chef is on that evening. Some items could be under seasoned or over cooked. A discretionary service charge is automatically added to your bill, so please be aware of this. It's around 10%, but it is discretionary, so you can legally ask for it to be removed if you feel that the service has not been good. It would have been better if they gave customers the choice to tip rather than automatically adding a tip to the bill. As people tend to feel awkward asking for a tip to be removed. The hotel itself is full of charm and character. Attention has been given to outside seating areas. There are some tiny details that need attention such as decor in the rooms but full modernisation is out of the question as this building has so much charm. An upgrade to the existing lift facility is much needed as it is narrow and noisy. Having said all this, we will be returning to this establishment to see if there are any additions to the lager selection in the bar.

My husband and I are in Norfolk on holiday. We decided to have the seafood sharing platter. Very disappointing, packet tasteless prawns, packet smoked salmon, very strong, anchovies placed completely over the salad making it taste completely of them. If you want a tasty sharing platter go to the Lighthouse Inn in Walcott, slightly more expensive but so much better.
