Best Western Aannesley House

Lots of positives for this hotel, which is situated on a busy road, about 15 minutes walk from the town. My room, 18, was at the front of one of the two main buildings and I did shut the windows overnight, though my friend, in one of the annexes had no traffic noise. Maybe ask for a room away from the road? The hotel was very well cared for, very clean, and the furnishings all looked new. The garden is lovely and the atmosphere throughout feels homely and comfortable. Really lovely staff who do a great job of looking after us. Diana in the restaurant at breakfast needs a special mention, for her gold standard guest care! We had the inclusive breakfast, which was always delicious, beautifully served and with lots of individual choice and attention. The evening meals too were good; enough choice and an imaginative menu. If you like cheese, try the local cheeses on the cheeseboard, which were memorably lovely, with the maker's information available so you know all about them. My room was ok, had everything I needed and a comfortable bed. Maybe a bit old fashioned, with brown furniture and quite dull and on the small side, though the bathroom was huge, with a full size bath. Maybe a chair or small table in there would be good, as the places to put toiletries etc were limited. If you come by train, as we did, the station is a good 20 minutes walk from the hotel; we didn't investigate the buses, so that might be a better option if you're not a walker. Over all, a lovely stay with attentive and hard working stff.

We booked this hotel initially on the basis that it was it easy walking distance to the city centre and on a bus bus route and offered parking at reasonable rates. However, as it turned out we did not use the parking at all! From the very minute of our arrival we felt welcomed and were being looked after. We could see the hotel reception rooms in the main building were excellent furnished and comfortable, a lovely lounge and a small bar which was well stocked. At the back was a attractive garden with a water feature and fish pond which on the sunny day we arrived was a nice shady place to sit and read. Our room was in the "coach house" as the hotel comprises a number of converted Georgian buildings converted for hotel use. It was evident from the decor that this building had been recently refurbished and the rooms were extremely nice, clean, comfortable and of a decent size. The bathroom was excellent with a walk in large shower with excellent modern plumbing. Good towels, toiletries, bathrobes, slippers and so forth provided as you would expect in a good hotel. All spotless and ship shape, and the room was made up each day very well. Although we did not wish for breakfast, as it is not our way, we were welcomed into the dining room for a simple coffee. The room also has the normal UK requirement of a kettle, cups, tea and instant coffee which we did not use. There was also a safe, a hairdryer, a clock and other standard useful items. Noise and lighting might be an issue for some other guests, as being older Georgian period listed buildings it does have creaky floors, so when other guests walk around the floor boards and joists can creak! The older architecture also had smaller windows compared to a modern home and some rooms lack daylight and you would need to use the electric lights in the day. It did not bother or concern us, however. The food menus for both breakfast and dinner are marked appropriately for gluten, vegan and so on, so anyone with a degree of allergies can be suitably catered for. The menus are not adventurous and do not need to be. Travellers can be assured that something is available if they do not want to explore what the city has to offer. We eat here and all was fine. I can see in older reviews some guests were dissatisfied and I can see from my visit that many improvements have been made through refurbishment and staff and I could not see these problems on my stay of several days. In terms of value, I felt it was excellent for what I felt was a five star experience. Thank you staff - we loved staying with you. You might note I have written many reviews over the years and being so positive in my review is not so usual!

A real find. A gem of a hotel just on the outskirts of Norwich. Family run but part of the Best Western 'Franchise' Lovely breakfast and a nice lounge/bar area. The rooms are very clean and of a good size. Good value for money and will definitely look to stay here again if in the area.
