Pulling up outside you are confronted by a large red brick building that at first sight makes you think have I done the right thing booking this hotel. Entering the building those doubts are expelled immediately. Firstly thank you Toni for a welcoming smile and greeting. Having been informed of the facilities we went to our room, large, comfortable and very clean. Time to explore. Entering through double doors you enter the most fantastic room, avbar and restaurant decorated in a modern twist on art deco it is quite beautiful. A wide generous bar so even when busy, as it often is, service is not a problem. The restaurant is adjacent and both areas sit below a glass paneled ceiling really beautiful with art deco style lighting. Going through the main room you come to a large outside eating area overlooking the wide expanse of Gorleston beach, ideal for a stroll on soft golden sand. Adjacent to the hotel is a long concrete pier, not a pier with amusements, but I believe constructed to aid boats entering and leaving what is the mouth of the river Yare. Again ideal for a leisurely walk. The day we were there we spotted a seal, the day before four juvenile dolphins were swimming close in. So much for the surroundings. The food at the Pier Hotel is first rate, and the portions most generous. The staff are attentive nothing is too much trouble. The whole operation runs like a well oiled machine, it really is a great place to stay. As a footnote, the hotel and beach feature in the film Yesterday by Danny Boyle.
