I’ll keep this factual. Original room given was wasp infested. 2nd room (a suite) stunk of damp. Power cut meant I couldn’t get the food I ordered. What I did have had me on the toilet at 1am and my friend had tummy issues the following day. I only stayed because I was exhausted after an 8 hour drive. Staff try but are working in a sinking ship.

Myself and my partner stayed recently and were extremely disappointed by our experience. We were recommended this hotel for a last minute getaway and were left feeling overwhelming deflated by our experience. Upon arrival we waited a long time for someone to be able to check us in, with a member of staff waiting at the desk for at least 5 minutes saying he could not do this before miraculously being able to give us the room key. When we finally got in to our room we were greeted by the smell of dampness and the sound of a loud fan droning on outside of the room window. I then waited at reception again to be given a different room. Although this was an upgrade it was still extremely disappointing. The 4 poster bed which had been screwed to the wall was hanging off and getting saw dust all over the sheets, the shower was leaking and made a loud noise upon use and only one of the lights had a bulb. After complaining about the first room, we felt it was pointless doing this again. We did visit the restaurant and the food was fantastic which accounts for the 1 star. The hotel stay was completely underwhelming and did not feel worth the money at all. The check in process felt like something from fawlty towers and the whole experience left us feeling cheated over the money we had spent. I would not recommend for anyone to visit this hotel as the whole experience was awful.

This was a much loved favourite in the past and we had not been for years. We have followed the social media for a few months and noticed that it looked like it had been renovated. On arrival the reception was nice enough, we where directed to our room a king suite, which was aweful! Smelled of dampness, bathroom was old and in poor order, the curtains where falling off the windows and it was very poorly painted. We asked to be moved rooms and got moved to the clyde suite. It was a little better but still smelled of dampness, very old fashioned and not a pleasant room. The food was so bad at lunch we never even went to our dinner reservation. The service was very slow, the staff seemed inexperienced and it was a bit like faulty towers. It was a shame. It has lovely gardens and they have done some work to the restaurant but it had dirty tables and floors and there was only two tables in. The bar area is lovely but again the whole place smells of dampnessand could be cleaner. We never bothered to have breakfast after the terrible lunch. Very disappointed in our stay. Such a shame for a local hotel that could be much better. 😕
