Grassington Lodge

Do not stay here. Difficult to gain access, no "friendly staff" on site. Bathroom across a corridor with a yale key. Not at all convenient in the middle of the night. Left and found a lovely pub around the corner.

This is bang central in Grassington, with parking spaces. The room was fine, though this was a last minute booking and I obviously hadn't read the small print as the double room did have a private bathroom, but not attached to the room. So you needed to go through the corridor yale lock key in hand to move between the bedroom and bathroom. Also, I hadn't appreciated that there are no staff or reception. There is a keypad on the front door which you are given a code for and then you pick your key up inside.

We had been looking forward to a relaxing and romantic stay in Grassington. We arrived in the village early so that we could enjoy a walk around, have something to eat and enjoy a few drinks before the advertised 4:00 pm check-in time. Shortly after 4:00 pm, we arrived at the lodge and followed the check-in instructions provided. As the property is unmanned, we entered the lounge area to collect our room keys as directed, only to find that no keys had been left for us. We called the telephone number displayed near the entrance and were told that someone would investigate and call us back within a couple of minutes. After waiting approximately 15 minutes with no update, I called again and was told that someone would return my call. Remaining patient, we decided to return to a local pub in the village while waiting for further information. A further 20 minutes passed with no contact. I continued calling and leaving messages, but received no response. Eventually, I received a text message stating that enquiries were still being made into the situation. After almost two hours of waiting and uncertainty, I finally asked a simple question: did we have a room or not? I was then informed that the answer was no, as the room had been double-booked and was no longer available. By this stage, we had already begun searching for alternative accommodation, only to discover that virtually everywhere within a 20-mile radius was fully booked. Having spent the afternoon in the village and consumed alcohol, driving elsewhere was no longer a practical option. Fortunately, the Foresters Arms in Grassington had a family room available and, after hearing about our situation, kindly offered it to us at a discounted rate. Their assistance and compassion were greatly appreciated and stood in stark contrast to the service we received from Grassington Lodge. What I find particularly unacceptable is that at no point did anyone from the Grassington lodge make any meaningful effort to assist us in finding alternative accommodation, check on our welfare, or offer support after informing us that our room was unavailable due to their error. The complete lack of communication and customer care caused unnecessary stress, inconvenience and additional expense on what was supposed to be an enjoyable break. Having since read other reviews, it appears that this is not an isolated incident. As a result of this experience, I would not consider staying at Grassington Lodge again and would never recommend this hotel to others and I would highly recommend that people thinking of staying here reconsider and look at other accommodation in the area.
