Just had 3 fantastic night's at 23 .the ladies who run the guest house are absolutely brilliant nothing to much trouble. The rooms are typical victorian but that is part of the pleasure of staying there .location is a few minutes off the centre of York.woukd def recommend.

We visited in November for 3 nights, the location is great in a nice quiet street but close to the main centre and cathedral. The atmosphere was very laid back, there is a self service snack bar which you pay around £1 per item, this includes chocolate and cans of pop. We booked a twin room but decided to keep the bed as a superking which was really comfortable and clean. The bathroom had a shower which had decent water pressure for an old house. We also took the option of breakfast which was lovely, with plenty of variety and the service was excellent. The best thing about 23 St Marys is the staff , although no-one is on sight of a night, they are really friendly at breakfast, offering suggestions of where to visit and the best way to get there. This was our second stay at 23 St Marys but will definitely not our last can't wait to return.

We stayed for 3 nights November 2025. Overall the guest house was lovely, quite close to town, car parking provided. My only disappointment was that the owner/manager called Fiona, was not there to greet us. She had been very nice on the phone when I booked it, but when we turned up Fiona had left the checking in etc. to a (very nice) young lady. TBH I found this quite disappointing. The young lady told us that they operated a "non-present" policy. What?? The room was fine, but the whole place was a little creaky ( fellow guests stomping about at 1AM ). Would we stay there again? Possibly.
