Special thanks to Tanya who I spoke to on the 7th of August and who promptly rang me back an hour later when a room became available. The hotel is a excellent base for the centre of York but gets some negative reviews for minor gripes. If you can find a hotel with a bar that serves breakfast within beautiful grounds for the price you pay for here in york good luck to you.The young staff atmeal times do a excellent job but get criticism. I have just come home and there was a group from Loch lomond travel there and a couple of ladies complained that they had waited too long for their breakfast, show some patience the staff had a full room and us on the next table dont want to hear your conversation which was full of the F word.people complain on here about scaffolding being up, Don't look at it repairs and improvements are nessasary.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Wheatlands . The room was very clean and comfortable , the staff friendly and professional .Breakfast was good as was the evening set menu . The hotel is situated close to bus routes allowing easy access to the city centre. The owners have been in the business for a long time and it shows .We would definitely stay again.

Staff are difficult at times but other times they can be okay. The clipped abrupt service of the English north unfortunately. Also very rude when I tried to check in but that’s okay. Notice just be aware that there are a long winding narrow staircases with staff refusing to help you with your luggage. Clean tidy and comfortable rooms and a great location
