Plough Hotel

We booked this hotel through Tesco vouchers so i was half expecting to be given a small tired room. In fact we were allowed to check in early and given a lovely big corner room that was perfectly clean & fresh. The bed was huge & comfortable, staff were friendly & always on hand & the breakfast was mostly very good. I personally didn’t like the sausage but that was the only tiny complaint. It was a short stroll from the centre & although it was on a main road, as we didn’t go to bed until after 10pm, road noise didn’t bother us at all.

I'm writing this review to state that the receptionist, Aphrodite, was the most joyous, friendly, welcoming, efficient and kind people you could wish for in a hotel. She called to check we were on our way when we were running late, she welcomed us with a beaming smile, each time we walked through the door, and bent over backwards to ensure we got a room we were happy with after we were disappointed with the traffic noise from the first room we could barely sleep in (on a hot night, but unable to open windows because of noise -- relying on a fan as there was no air-con) Aphrodite really should be running the place: she combines great people skills with great 'let's do this' skills. Another colleague, Kyle, was helpful when we asked him about room switching. I was struck how few staff there were, and how much Kyle and Aphrodite were expected to do - in the kitchen, at the bar, in the lounge -- meaning that nearly every time we walked into reception, nobody was there. This is a criticism of senior management, shocked that they seem prepared to work their no-doubt poorly paid staff so hard. Kyle and Aphrodite are a credit to what seems to me to be a hotel that's in decline

If you’re thinking the people here will be compassionate about an honest and genuine mistake when booking don’t stay here!! They will send you from pillar to post with best western hotels and the woman on reception will tell you lies just so you’re someone else’s problem. It’s a shame they aren’t willing to show some empathy and help me out… it’s not like it affects them but makes all the difference to me.I tried raising my issue with a manager to find out ‘they don’t have one’. Very poor service.
