Thornley House - Guest house

I don’t know where some of these reviewers stayed but it was certainly not the same experience we had. We’ve just spent 2 fabulous nights here along with dogs Billy and Benny. Absolutely loved every moment there. Eileen is the perfect host and couldn’t do enough for us. A really warm and friendly well versed and well traveled woman. She’s so interesting to talk to I could have spent hours listening to her stories of seeing the big cats. As for the pussy cats absolutely beautiful. We kept our dogs on their leads and well away from the cats. It’s their house and they don’t want to be bothered with my 2 crazy hounds. Loved the cats they were definitely the star of the show. I have a wee soft spot for Maine Coons and was in my element absolutely beauts. One of the highlights was seeing the kitty graveyard drenched in snowdrops it was beautiful. Thank you so much for making my birthday weekend away so special. We will definitely return. Regards four in a bed! It’s all in the edit and the disrespect shown to Eileen was outrageous!

It’s an acquired taste but sadly not mine. I’m a pretty laidback and quirky person myself and love unusual and nonconformist but this place was a stretch, even for me. If you like cat hair everywhere, dubious hygiene and sleeping in dead grandparents bedding you’ve hit the jackpot here! It’s been a long time since I slept in my clothes and escaped before breakfast but that’s exactly what we did. I honestly don’t know how this lady is still in business and I’d recommend watching her episode of Four In A Bed before you spend your money on a night here! I tried to find the host before we left and made the mistake of popping my head around the kitchen door. Dirty laundry, raw sausages and a very large cat all sharing the same worktop. I wouldn’t stay here again if it was the last place on earth!

Loved this beautiful house. Rooms all cosy and very homely. Eileen the owner was friendly and made the most delicious breakfast. Had a garden safari which was fun. You definitely have to love cats to stay here, which we did. Not really near anything, but if you just want to relax or do walks, perfect base.
