Sun Hotel Warkworth

We left feeling very let down by our stay. The hotel enjoys a wonderful location in a charming village, but unfortunately that’s where the positives end. Although I don’t mind older properties, in this case the dated décor simply made everything feel tired and grubby. What the place really needs is a thorough, top‑to‑bottom clean. Small but telling details stood out: the information folder in the room had sticky plastic pages, the window frames showed signs of mould, the bin was cracked, the mattress was old and uncomfortable, and there were spider webs in the corners. The bathroom had a bath, but only a handheld shower head, which wasn’t ideal. Breakfast itself was pleasant enough. However, you’re left to figure things out on your own when you enter, and the single member of staff was clearly overstretched. Our table hadn’t been wiped, so we ended up eating among the previous guests’ crumbs. Overall, it didn’t feel worth the price we paid. We stayed for one night, and the rate was far too high for the standard and value offered. We were glad to leave.

Had food with friends absolutely delicious Had pulled pork on flat bread and others had hot beef sandwich with chips and coleslaw. 5 star food, and service amazing, have always had amazing food here on other visits too

On the positive side, the hotel is situated in a lovely area and an ideal base for visiting the local attractions. Breakfast is good. The adjoining restaurant does good food and I had the best liver ever! On the negative side, the hotel is dated. The dining room is from nineteen-canteen and the wallpaper needs changing. Our room was small and had steps leading down to the shower room (no bath). The shower was basically unusable due to the water being scalding hot and wouldn’t cool down and the water cut out while in use. I’d also point out that the shower is very small and if you are on the larger side weight wise you probably won’t even fit in! The shower head is the type that is straight above you and cannot be directed. You can do better for the money!
