Hilton Nottingham

We stayed at the Hilton Nottingham City Centre from 21st–23rd July 2026, having booked two rooms around three months in advance – a King room and a Queen room for five adults. What surprised us most was how two rooms for the same family, staying at the same time and costing us the same, provided such different experiences. The Queen room was noticeably more spacious and came with a mini fridge, gowns and slippers. The King room, however, was tiny – you couldn’t swing a cat in it. There was barely room to walk around the bed, nowhere practical for luggage, just a small ledge for the tea station and your bits and bobs, and around a 16-inch rail for clothes. There was even a mini ironing board but barely enough room to open it. The King room had no fridge, gowns or slippers. We were told the latter weren’t provided because our room was smaller, although they did send some after we asked, which we appreciated. Still, considering we paid the same for both rooms, the difference in space and amenities was surprising. The toiletries – shampoo, shower gel and hand wash – were pretty much empty when we arrived and weren’t reliably refilled during our stay. We had also requested lactose-free milk in advance and were assured this could be accommodated and would be in our room for the tea and coffee station. It wasn’t. Instead, we were told alternative milk was available from the bar, so whenever we wanted some we had to go downstairs and collect a small jug ourselves. We appreciated that an alternative was available, but it wasn’t what had been agreed beforehand. The biggest issue was our blocked bathroom sink. We reported it to reception five times over our two-night stay and were repeatedly told somebody would come to fix it. Nobody ever did, so we spent the entire stay with a sink that wouldn’t drain properly. What made this particularly frustrating was what happened after we checked out. While still at the hotel, we overheard the next guests waiting to check in to what we believe was our room being told they couldn’t access it yet because the sink was blocked and the issue was being dealt with. If this was our room, it appears the problem was finally addressed only after we had checked out, despite us reporting it five times during our stay. Things go wrong in hotels and we completely understand that. What we don’t understand is why an issue we repeatedly raised over two days seemingly wasn’t dealt with until it affected the next guests checking in. We also paid for breakfast. The selection was fairly basic – cereals, a full English, toast, juices, teas etc. There were some vegetarian options, but these were limited and unfortunately we didn’t find the vegetarian sausages particularly good. The hotel’s biggest positive is its location, although most of what made the location enjoyable had little to do with the hotel itself. You’re right in Nottingham city centre with restaurants, shops and plenty to do on your doorstep, and getting around by Uber was quick and easy. Parking is chargeable. There is a very small car park directly outside the hotel, or the Trinity Square multi-storey directly opposite. The hotel offers a discounted rate there of £16 for 24 hours, which we found convenient. Overall, we have stayed at numerous Hilton hotels and this was unfortunately the worst experience we have had. The King room in particular was disgraceful for what we expected from a Hilton, and it was bizarre that members of the same family, paying the same for their rooms, could receive such different standards of accommodation and amenities. The few positives we took from the stay were largely down to the hotel’s excellent city-centre location rather than the hotel itself. Staff did provide gowns and slippers when requested and alternative milk was available from the bar, but the poor room, lack of attention to basic amenities and, most importantly, the failure to fix a blocked sink despite five requests outweighed those positives. We have previously stayed at the DoubleTree in Nottingham and had a much better experience. If returning to Nottingham, that’s where we would choose to stay. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t recommend this Hilton and wouldn’t return.

Great location, but that’s where the positives largely end. Cramped rooms with no fridge or proper wardrobe and wifi (that one needs to connect with promotion codes!) , and service was hit-and-miss. While some staff (the coffee shops folks) were excellent, others (like some simit) lacked the professionalism you’d expect—particularly in handling room allocation and recognising Hilton Diamond members (they call u by first name !). A disappointing stay for the brand.

Pretty disappointed with this property. When I checked in I was cheerfully told that I was being upgraded because of my Diamond status. When I got to my room I found nothing that would indicate that. No writing/desk space ( I need that) No close closet to hang anything ( instead some kind of makeshift coat rack) No luggage rack ( I had to use the ironing board). No mini fridge. ( They brought one to my room which barely held anything and didn’t get much colder than room temperature . I went back to the front desk and asked how this room could be considered an upgraded room . I was told because it had a king bed. OK. Swell. I don’t need a big bed. What I need is space to conduct bus, and place to put my things. I ended up spreading all my business papers on a table in the lobby and that became my office.
