Tudor inn, Victorian plumbing,
on a hot day we weren't expecting a cool room with air-conditioning - fair enough.
landing was 31 degrees, bedroom appreciably hotter must have been nearer 40, If this was a prison it would be illegal - fortunately we were able to give up leave and go home - impossible to sleep in that heat
pathetic tiny fan and some luke-warm free water is not enough
and the heating in full blast in the bathroom - really ?
We were told they can't turn off the heating without turning off the hot water - Maybe they need some investment however old the building is.
The staff all left at 9 as so hot - I sympathise with them
The owner claimed that this was because they weren't busy - but the hotel was allegedly full - cant have it both ways
1-2 stars means that the resident should have some control of temperature
this is a 0 star hotel and I haven't been anywhere this bad since back-packing round Turkey in the early 1980s
we asked for some compensation - I wasn't expecting 100%, got nothing
terrible facilities, worse attitude from owner (staff are fine)

A beautiful ancient building which we had never stayed in before but, when we lived in Nottingham years ago, would visit regularly for a meal.
The character and history of the place are amazing. Whilst some of the corridors could do with a bit of tlc, our twin room was nicely decorated and in good order with a large walk in shower.
The menu for a cooked breakfast is limited but the quality was excellent and there was a wonderful selection of fresh fruit and croissants alongside the usual cereals and yoghurts.
Also, the customer service at breakfast was excellent whilst the gentleman who checked us in, whilst pleasant, could have been a little more communicative and welcoming.
Excellent value for B&B and would highly recommend.

A hotel with lots of history dating back to 14C with attractive public rooms and right in the centre of the town.
Bedroom was fine, of a reasonable size and perfectly clean.
Overall the hotel lacked atmosphere and both the bar and restaurant were closed on one night of our two night stay. We did try both on the other night but were the only people there. We booked a table in the restaurant for 7.30 and went down to the bar at 7.00 for a pre-dinner drink. We were immediately hustled into the restaurant, served straightaway with a pretty average pub-type meal and had finished by 8.00 at which point we were told the bar and restaurant were closing and were asked to move to the lounge. So instead of a nice leisurely meal spread over the evening we were finished by 8.15.
Breakfast, however, was good. It was freshly cooked (how I hate a buffet breakfast) and with a smiley, helpful waitress.
