We stayed here over the heat wave we had in August. Our first night was good, the bed was comfy, the room was spacious enough and the food in the restaurant was lovely (though service felt a little lacking). The room could do with a refresh as there were cracks in the paint and the headboard was stained from people leaning on it which ruined the aesthetic of the room. Additionally as the room was above the pub, you could hear everything (every phone call and conversation), including the music which lasted past 11pm on both nights.
Breakfast was advertised as a full continental, so we were a little disappointed to see that it was simply cereal, toast and a small selection of fruit with the option to pay extra for cooked food. On the second day, croissants were provided which were lovely, however I feel a full continental should contain slightly more than was offered. Service however at breakfast was second to none, cannot fault the breakfast staff!
Unfortunately the thing that ruined the hotel for us was that upon returning from our day out, in 35° heat, they had removed the fan that they had provided in our room upon check in to give to another guest. When I queried this, I was told that they only had 4 fans for 10 rooms and another guest was complaining. We had taken our own fan with us due to taking our dog and seeing the weather forecast, so had no issue with them moving the fan if it was needed elsewhere. However I feel it was unprofessional and inappropriate to take something that you have already provided to a customer without at least asking or even informing them. We were just left to find it out for ourselves when we came back. The way in which it was explained to me by the staff member made it sound like whether we had a fan of our own or not, they would still have taken it, as they said that we were out and other customers were complaining of the heat. We had two windows in our room, however one did not open at all and the other only opened a small amount as pictured. This was disappointing as we otherwise had enjoyed our stay, but feel we will not return here in the future. My advice to the hotel is ensure that you have enough basic items for the rooms, and to customers if you are visiting in a heat wave - take a fan!
